I got it wrong! I almost started a career in Sales using my Portuguese and Spanish What doubt had turned me away from that path? My own prejudices. I viewed that career choice as a Wolf of Wall Street situation that would encourage the more toxic elements of my personality (I'm a very competitive person). To me that had outweighed the opportunities for growth, for travel, for enhancing my languages every day. Of course, I don't regret it. I wouldn't be who I am today if I had made that decision, but as I work every day with fantastic multilingual Sales professionals I have grown so much from that judgemental mental image. The opportunities that I work on (and that opportunity that I had almost worked FOR) are a world away from that stereotype. When I'm taking on a new role, usually seeking either a fluent-level German or French speaker, I'm always amazed to hear the lengths Tech and SaaS companies are going to move away from the old view of Sales and Business Development careers. Language as Your Superpower: Fluency in multiple languages isn't just a skill; it's your ticket to engaging with a whole new market. Whether you're cold calling prospects or negotiating deals, speaking their language builds instant rapport and trust. Growth and Training: In the fast-paced world of sales, continuous growth is key. Leveraging your language proficiency opens doors to specialized training programs and resources, honing your skills and expanding your knowledge base. Empowerment Through Discipline: Learning a discipline like sales isn't just about mastering techniques; the patience, the resilience, the ambitiousness learnt can apply across life. Value Recognized by Companies: In today's globalized economy, companies are increasingly recognizing the value of multilingual sales professionals. With many international companies investing in the DACH region (and EMEA overall), UK-based talent with Sales Development skills and German-fluency is in extremely high demand. Don't miss out on the opportunity to turbocharge your career while making a meaningful impact. If you're a fluent-level German speaker looking for your next step in SaaS Sales, I'm recruiting for an opportunity that's out of this world. 🚀 #Sales #BusinessDevelopment #germanjobs #CareerGrowth #DACHMarket

I couldn't agree more with this insightful post. Doing business in multiple languages isn't just about words. Merely knowing the language is not enough. It's about understanding the cultural differences and connecting authentically. As someone who speaks multiple languages and has lived in different countries, I've experienced firsthand the importance of cultural understanding in sales or any business practices. This is also why I created WeGlobal Virtual Solutions, a Virtual Assistant team, to help people authentically connect with others from different backgrounds using our language skills and experience living in multiple countries. How about you? Share your experiences dealing with different cultures for work or business! #Sales #Multilingual #Communication #CulturalUnderstanding #InternationalBusiness #InternationalMarket #InternationalSales #CulturalGap #Polyglots #VirtualAssistantTeam #CrossCulturalCommunication #ForeignLanguages

I help SDR Leaders to be the best possible leaders for their team and themselves | Founder @ SDR Leaders of EMEA | Founder @ Saleswise
Don't fall asleep on when to hire certain languages in EMEA Check out my hiring strategy 👇 Imagine the scene: You are building out your EMEA SDR function, expanding on the successful team you built in North America. But where do you start? Each territory has different cultures, behaviours, and nuances that only native speakers of those countries can understand. Most critically, you also need to consider revenue contribution for the countries you are going to hire in, so that means there's some talent you can't bring in immediately! When I speak with leaders, this is the order I recommend hiring: Phase 1: English speaker for Inbound in the whole of EMEA (your website and collateral will mostly be in English; you can get away with an English speaker here for the time being) Phase 1a: English speaker for UK/Ireland/ Nordics and Netherlands, Middle East (Business is normally carried out in English) Phase 2: French speaker, German speaker (These will be your hardest hires but some of your most productive) Phase 3: Italian/Spanish speaker, Swedish/Danish/Finish, Arabic Phase 4: Dutch/Polish So when building out your languages for your SDR team, first consider where will bring the most revenue; if it's in some of the countries I mentioned above, then stick to that phased approach. There will be edge cases, of course, where more revenue will come from Phase 4 countries, but don't make the mistake of hitting someone too early, or your CAC will be way too high, and the SDR you've hired will be metaphorically redundant. In what order have you hired your SDR orgs in EMEA? The secret to modern sales success: Speak the language of your customers (literally) In today’s global market, a successful salesperson isn’t just skilled at closing deals—they’re also multilingual. Here’s why: Global Reach 🌍 English may be the business lingua franca, but connecting on a deeper level with clients in their native language builds trust and rapport. Versatility 💼 Being able to switch between languages seamlessly can open doors in both the American and European markets, giving you a competitive edge. Customer-Centric Approach 🗣️ Speaking the language of your customers shows that you’re committed to understanding their needs and cultures, which is invaluable in building lasting relationships. And here’s the aha moment… Imagine closing a deal in Italian, charming a client in Portuguese, and sealing the contract in Spanish—all before lunch! So, if you’re serious about thriving in sales, consider brushing up on your language skills. Curious, which languages do you think are most valuable in sales today?
