I received my certification for the International Youth Conference earlier this morning and wanted to share a few of my takeaways regarding youth and climate action that I noted while attending. The panel discussion focused on the role of youth in climate action, featuring speakers who shared their experiences and insights on engaging with the climate movement. Some of the speakers included Sohila Rizk, Ann Molin, and Jerome Wano. Key Takeaways: - Climate Education: There's a need for better climate education in some regions which we are trying to build a curriculum on at EcoAware Youth, or you may check our website www.ecoawareyouth.org. - Business Role: Businesses should focus on reducing carbon emissions.  - Indigenous Voices: Indigenous communities are heavily impacted by climate change and should have a say in policy-making.  - Grassroots Strategies: Building coalitions from the ground up and having diverse teams are crucial.  - Engaging Events: Events like hackathons should be engaging and purposeful to attract participants. - Youth Involvement: Mentorship, persistence, and using technology are important for young people to make an impact. Ever wondered what our changing climate will look like in years to come for our kids and future generations? I do. Ever thought about what it's like for countries closer to the equator and the oceans who are already feeling the effects more than we do in the UK? I do. I happened to go on a MOOC (massive open online course) by United Edge in 2020 with 200+ participants, primarily from Majority South nations, many of whom worked in the 'development sector', i.e. with direct lived experience. It changed my life and my work. (I wasn't focused on solving Climate Change at that time.) It focused on a new form of justice that embraced ALL living species + the earth (beyond human rights++) called, "The Justice-Based Approach" (JBA). I found it a unique source of wisdom; a 'wake up' call for me personally, and a safe space to metamorphose into being a Sustainability Changemaker. The next course is scheduled for April 2024. I value their passion, professionalism and humanity at a time when 'inner transformation' appears to be the missing ingredient to the 'outer transformation' we need. Climate Democracy Accelerator (CDA) People Powered is looking for 15 government and civil society leaders from across the world to form a new cohort of the Climate Democracy Accelerator (CDA) program. The selected participants will receive funding, free access to online training, expert mentoring and advice, and international peer-learning opportunities to develop a project to launch a climate-focused participatory program. CDA is a six-month, practice-oriented training and support program that prepares participants to plan and implement an inclusive and participatory process for a just climate transition. Participants from different parts of the world will develop a project to implement a climate-focused participatory program that addresses the needs and voices of local communities. Selected applicants will have access to a dedicated mentor to guide the development of their program, along with Step-by-step resources such as the Participation Playbook , our interactive online tool for designing participatory programs. Practice-oriented live sessions and online courses. A 10,000 USD implementation grant. The opportunity to apply for an additional 20,000 USD award for the best project developed by program participants.
