🇬🇭 From June 17-21, government and civil society leaders joined OGP representatives for a series of pivotal events showcasing Ghana’s new National Action Plan and #opengov initiatives. Here’s a detailed look at the visit and outcomes: 🔍 Mukelani D., former OGP co-chair, country lead Tarik Nesh-Nash, Parliament & CSOs participated in the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) Citizens Convention. There, participants validated the Ghana Compact, ensuring that commitments and citizen voices continue to be embedded into political landscapes. 👥 Under the chairmanship of Hon. Yaw Osafo-Maafo, the Ghana OGP Steering Committee committed to the #OpenGovChallenge. This included advancing women's political participation through the Affirmative Action Bill and intensifying efforts to combat misinformation/disinformation. 🏛️ OGP also had the opportunity to meet with the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, and explore synergies between OGP initiatives and parliamentary oversight, ensuring a robust framework for good governance in Ghana. 🤝 During the visit, OGP engaged in productive discussions with key partners, including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the European Union in Ghana, the The World Bank, and the French Embassy in Ghana / Ambassade de France au Ghana. These discussions focused on enhancing communication strategies, combating misinformation, exploring #anticorruption commitments, and supporting OGP initiatives beyond Ghana. 💬 Engaging with civil society, including the Ghana Integrity Initiative - GII, underscored the imperative of transparency and accountability across society and administration levels. Discussions with 30 representatives from civil society highlighted the importance of mainstreaming these values across different levels of society and administration. 🌐 A pivotal meeting with the Right To Information Commission highlighted progress on Ghana’s NAP implementation and leadership in regional OGP initiatives, focusing on advancing the Legislative Instrument for #RTI. This initiative aligns with efforts discussed at RTI Ghana and emphasizes Ghana's leadership in promoting transparency and accountability in Africa.
