Every back-to-school season, Air Force Master Sgt. Richard Anderson prepares to brace for the annual strain on his family's budget. Recently, the Andersons were grateful for Operation Homefront’s Back-to-School Brigade® event, where their three children received backpacks filled with essential supplies! Richard's wife, Amy, discovered the event through the Air Force’s Key Spouse program. She was impressed by the volunteers’ dedication and appreciated the resources provided to parents, including coupons and useful flyers from sponsors and local businesses. Thanks to the generosity of donors, sponsors, and volunteers, this program has distributed nearly half a million supply-filled backpacks to military children like the Anderson's. Military, veterans, and first responders may suffer from stress and anxiety. It's important to remember that you are only responsible for the things that you have the right and ability to control. You are not responsible for the things you don't. Want to talk about this more? We'd love to connect with you. Every year, over 300,000 people join the United States military. There are many reasons people enlist: education benefits, access to healthcare, a sense of duty to their country. A lot has changed since I made the choice to serve in the United States Navy over 30 years ago, but one thing remains the same - military life impacts not only the servicemember but their entire family. There may be cross-country moves, deployments, late nights and early mornings. Sometimes the unthinkable happens and an entire family is left grieving their loved one. This is why organizations like Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) are so important. TAPS provides support to anyone impacted by the death of a servicemember or veteran, including individual counseling, peer support groups, and a 24/7 National Military Survivor Helpline. In honor of National Philanthropy Day and National Veterans and Military Families Month, I’m donating a portion of the November proceeds from my book, Soar Into Joy: A Combat Pilot’s Wisdom on Falling in Love with Your Life to support TAPS. Please consider supporting organizations, like TAPS, who directly support the families of those who gave their lives in service to our country.

We’ve just launched our Non-Profit Page. Follow our page to learn how you can change your life and the lives of fellow service members! Billets Foundation Objectives 1. Financial Relief for Service Members: Our primary objective is to alleviate financial strain on service members during Permanent Change of Station (PCS) moves. We achieve this by offering financial assistance for lodging expenses incurred during transitional periods between homes. 2. Community Enhancement near Military Installations: We endeavor to improve the quality of neighborhoods surrounding military installations. By acquiring properties in these areas, refurbishing them, and making them available for long-term rental through platforms like Billet, we aim to enhance the living conditions for service members and their families. 3. Transitional Lodging Support: We provide temporary lodging solutions for service members transitioning out of the military. Whether they require short-term accommodations while finalizing their plans or need assistance to re-establish themselves post-service, we offer a supportive environment to facilitate their transition.

Hey, military leaders. With a government shutdown looking more likely, now is a good time to review what crisis resources are available. Here's a short list: Navy-Marine Corps Relief: nmcrs.org Army Emergency Relief: armyemergencyrelief.org Air Force Aid: afas.org USAA (no interest loan): usaa.com Navy Federal Credit Union (pay advance): nfcu.org Military OneSource: militaryonesource.mil If anyone has additional links, post in the comments. The local base and community will likely have additional resources, including food banks. I would counsel people to avoid payday lenders and pawn shops. Long term, use sound personal finance practices and build an emergency fund for the next time legislative stupidity strikes.
