As a board member, I cannot be more proud of Rebuilding Together Peninsula and the work they do for our community. RTP makes repairs to homes to make them safe for the occupants. Here is a recent example. A woman was living in this home with front steps that were rotting out and getting treacherous. The home was red-tagged due to this hazardous condition. The owner was not able to afford the cost of replacing the stairs, and was faced with having to leave her home of many years. RTP came in and removed the old steps, replacing them with nice, secure new steps and handrails. That made it easy and safe for her to get in and out of her home, and assured that she would be able to remain in the home. This is what RTP does, in a nutshell. They work to make people’s home livable. Each year we accept a number of projects based on need and urgency. Donations to RTP pay for materials, and all labor is donated. The more contributions we receive, the more projects we are able to accept, and also projects with potentially larger scope. We are live out to the world (well Arizona anyway, for now) here at The Home of Record Project. We have a program launch campaign open with PayPal to raise $5k in the next month. Literally every single dollar will go to assist the veteran(s) in need and help us with the other requests we have pending. We are raising money and awareness organically and intend to keep it that way as we take a holistic approach to helping veterans transition out of uniform and keep them away from the risk of becoming homeless by providing personal financial freedom guidance, VA benefits assistance, physical fitness, socialization, mental health, education guidance, as well as career and professional development mentorship. I think most of us can agree there is gaps in all the local, state, and federally funded programs as well as the hundreds of veteran non-profits that exist solely to raise money and provide resources but don't provide any tangible benefits.
