I just completed CBRE's Project Management virtual internship on Forage. In the simulation I: - Completed a job simulation focused on project management at CBRE. - Conducted an initial review of a showroom project plan for a global manufacturer of high-end kitchen appliances. - Developed a Gantt chart to track the progress of the project and considered the project’s risks and dependencies. We had a few minutes to sit down with Joe to discuss what he is passionate about in the workplace: 1️⃣ How long have you worked at Elevator3? I started as a Project Coordinator Intern in March of 2021. Wow. Almost three years ago now. I became a full-time Project Coordinator after I graduated in December of 2021, and I became a Project Manager in January of 2023.  2️⃣ What has been your favorite project you worked on at Elevator3? It's still early on in its lifecycle, but I enjoy working on the order management system for LA Firearms. It's challenging, has a lot of exciting logic and requirements to navigate around, and the clients are fantastic to work with. 3️⃣ What has been your most proud moment at E3? Getting my first certification, CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management), after becoming a Project Manager was a great feeling. 4️⃣ What advice would you offer someone who wants to become a Project Manager in the technology industry? Use every situation as an opportunity for learning. Failures and successes are equally important parts of the process, giving invaluable data for improvement. Learning from past mistakes and always moving forward with a positive attitude can be your greatest asset. 5️⃣ What inspired you to pursue a career in technology? I've always enjoyed problem-solving and technology, and that place where business and technology meet is a natural fit for me. It’s National Intern Day! And at The Korte Company, it’s another day for interns to experience the real world. We call it Thursday. That’s because every day, our interns see first-hand what it’s like to work, think, and prepare for their careers in the construction industry. It's summertime ladies and gents, and I think you all know what that means... INTERNS! How can you effectively leverage your internship, and managers, how can you get the most of your interns in the short summer months? Let's start with the youngins. Internships can be sort of a whirlwind experience. You're diving into a company's culture, learning how they do things, and trying to soak up as much of your summer break from school. Crammed into about a 6-week period. The best advice I can give, stay in the moment. Show up every day ready to learn and tackle the tasks you have that day. No, you may not get to do the most fun or glamorous work. But you can learn so much just being on a jobsite and interacting with professionals who have dedicated their lives to being better construction managers. Be thankful for the opportunity, show up every day ready to work, and take a lot of notes. Construction managers, it's your turn. Yes, some harmless hazing of the intern is fun and can break up the monotony of the day-to-day grind. I've been on both the receiving and giving end, and it can be a fun way to build team chemistry. But keep in mind, these interns are probably overwhelmed and not very confident in themselves when they start. Try to go easy on them for a bit, let them get their feet underneath them. Teach them as much as you can. Let them be involved in some of the fun tasks. Show them really what it's like to be a part of your team and work with you. We need these younger folks interested in the industry. Interns can be a great tool for construction companies and project management teams, if used properly. If you're stuck and not sure how to best develop your interns, give me a shout. Get out there and go build something.

PT. 3 internship presentation #Coastal Slide 5 I applied the principles of system dynamics to gain a deeper understanding of the Coastals’ corporate culture & the construction industry. This encompassed engaging with a wide range of roles, from the diligent cleaning crew arriving at corporate at ------ p.m. to receptionists, interns, hoist controllers, superintendents, & VPs. I sought to understanding their roles, their reasons for joining Coastal or the construction field, & their experiences balancing work + life. While it's impossible to encapsulate the insights from over 200 individuals within this 10-minute presentation, there were several key interactions that resonated with me. Brian Truskys’ personal dedication to his job struck a chord with me, illuminating the deep sense of ownership that arises when personal values align with mission goals. Jose Hernandez shared his inspiring story of personal transformation, highlighting the supportive role that Coastal played in his journey. My conversation with Daniel Whiteman revealed an unexpected connection: my mother has been crafting floral designs for Coastal with De La Flor Gardens, for almost 20 years. Speaking with ------, one of the night cleaning ladies, was a humble reminder of my own past experiences & the journey I've undertaken. From Martin Bandin, I learned that leading a company & driving in Miami share similarities: both require a clear vision of the path ahead & firm, alert decision-making. Alex Obregon & Nina revealed the complexities behind acquiring permits - a task more intricate than it initially appears because of the impact in the schedules. Stephanie, on how she started in humble beginnings in the company to how well she has mastered the art of procurement & how it systematically can affect the logistics to constraints in scheduling. Osmany & Renso, how estimating informs decision-making about labor, materials, & time allocation, directly affecting project efficiency & timely completion. How estimating also affects the general contractor's reputation, financial sustainability, & capacity for future growth. Richard & Antonella reminded me that leadership is less about position & more about how one confronts + resolves problems. Mike Murphy demonstrated that no matter how senior one's position, recognition & acknowledgement from executives are always appreciated. John Mills' life experiences, despite our age gap & long-term interests, revealed surprising parallels with my own journey. Understanding the unique contributions & motivations of each person within the company fosters a synergistic environment. Realizing that every action & decision reverberates throughout the organization underlines the importance of considering potential impacts on other departments when addressing issues.
