Ever had to sit through long wait times without any update on where you are in the queue? How about spending hours applying to a government service without knowing if you are eligible? 💢These are prime examples of 'sludge’ in government services and processes. 🆕OECD policy paper ➡️ 9 good practice principles for reducing sludge: unnecessary frictions in public services that consume time and resources, contribute to frustration, distrust and psychological costs, and jeopardise equitable access to government services. To identify hidden frictions, the NSW Government in Australia pioneered the world’s first governmental sludge audit method. Together with the OECD, 16 governments from 14 countries piloted the sludge audits during the first International Sludge Academy. The initiative generated nine good practice principles and global case studies for organisations looking to make their processes and services easier to access. 🆕 Report | #BehaviouralScience for #corruption risk management🛑 The OECD - OCDE and Úrad vlády Slovenskej republiky collaborated on behavioural insights methods to bolster the Slovak Republic’s public administration risk management practices. An effective corruption risk management system is crucial for public integrity. It ensures striving for efficient and targeted integrity measures and to achieving the goals of public policies. Corruption risk management requires choices and actions from public officials that can be influenced by social norms and dynamics. Incorporating insights from behavioural science thus can ensure corruption risk management policies align closer with actual human behaviour and decision-making. Key insights and recommendations: ➡️ Behavioural strategies can be an effective tool for encouraging public sector integrity ➡️ Public servants should feel safe and be encouraged to communicate risk  ➡️ Exposure to good ethical behaviours from leaders can enhance the likelihood of public servants communicating corruption risks ➡️ Anti-corruption coordinators and cross-agency working groups could act as important institutional leaders for effective risk management ➡️ Knowledge of risk communication channels and trust in the system contribute to the likelihood of communicating about corruption risks ➡️ Enhanced awareness of the risk management system and function can contribute to increasing the understanding of the importance of communicating integrity risks 🔗 The project was financed by EEA and Norway Grants. #BehaviouralInsights #RiskManagement #SlovakRepublic #PublicAdministration Chiara Varazzani PhD, Henrietta Blom, Francesca Papa, Frédéric Boehm
