A moment from our site visit last week in Asheville, North Carolina. This project, Elk View, is a progression of housing in America that reconnects with nature through sustainable building technologies. The homes being built will run near net zero after extensive mechanical analysis. Each home has been modeled in our studio, with that model then being exported for testing by a specialty engineer before engaging with contractors. In this manner, we strive to establish the performance of each home before they can be reduced by the realities of competing demands in commercial development. We work with our builders closely to raise the bar without looking to raise the costs. The Edison in Milwaukee is poised to become the world's tallest hybrid mass timber building. Developed by The Neutral Project, the 32-story mixed-use tower employs a hybrid timber and concrete structure. SUSTAINABLE LIVING: The Neutral Project prioritizes sustainability, leveraging mass timber technology. The Edison targets Passive House (Phius) certification, aligning with the mainstream push for eco-friendly, high-performance building standards. DOUBLING IN SIZE: The Edison underwent revisions that increased its size. This shift reflects adaptability to evolving needs and sustainable construction standards. GLOBAL IMPACT: Milwaukee, already home to groundbreaking projects like The Ascent, reaffirms its commitment to pushing the boundaries of sustainable architecture. Past Project Highlight: Pottsboro High School and Pottsboro Elementary School storm shelter additions were recently completed in partnership with WRA Architects, Inc. Storm shelters often come with unique challenges, as student & staff safety was our top priority. From an operational standpoint, back-up power, ventilation, and maintaining the integrity of the storm shelter envelope are considerations that received careful attention. Ventilation in particular carried additional challenges for each of the locations, and a different approach was incorporated at each location. The layout of the high school shelter was conducive to a louver-based system; while the physical location of the elementary school addition, sitting between the existing elementary and the existing intermediate school, initiated a purely mechanical system. #stormshelter #architecture #design

BREAKING #GetShedsDown news 📢 After an extensive selection process, firms Arup US and Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU) have been selected to deliver six new better-looking, more cost-efficient designs for scaffolding/construction sheds and pedestrian safety equipment. The redesigns will include four options for sidewalk-level sheds and two options for non-sidewalk-level pedestrian safety equipment, such as mesh fiber wraps or netting. Those six designs will be publicly released by the city to give every contractor the ability to build and use them, further driving down costs through competition. "In Texas, we are designing our homes with fewer hallways as much as feasible.
