#design lives in a binary world where everything is either a 1 or a 0, it's a polarizing duality of everything and nothing, the impossible and the possible. Design occupies the space between those opposite states, where between 1 and 0 exist infinite possibilities of how technology could solve our problems in a meaningful way.

He envisioned a future where construction wasn't confined to paper, but guided by holograms. Fast forward to 2017, David's vision became reality with the founding of XYZ Reality. XYZ Reality's construction AR technology is like having a blueprint come to life right before your eyes. The #Human(e) #Technology #Design Studio is a #discourse-driven, #action-oriented modality developed to shape generative opportunities for critical technology discussions with #usergroups closest to the problem. In this paper, the authors outline the rationale for the creation of this modality, with theoretical commitments rooted in the domains of #participatory action research and #cocreation, as well as the #design #aspirations informing the studios’ #rhythms of #insight #identification, #integration, and #activation. Bioregional design practices give us a framework to ask useful questions: what resources are available and how can we use them in a way that makes local environmental and social systems stronger? By building alliances within Viennese industry, academia and creative professionals, Biofabrique Vienna aims to strengthen the bioregion itself.

 With its methodology based on a bioregional approach; finding, connecting, implementing and sharing — the Biofabrique operates as a network as well as a knowledge and production platform, processesing raw and repurposed materials tailored to each bioregion’s resources and needs. 

 „Material Assemblies“ is a program, launched by Biofabrique, focusing on material research and 1:1 experimentation. It aims to propose an alternative material narrative embedded in the city of Vienna, its resources, knowhow, history, and identity. Through identifying, mapping, and collecting local resources, industrial and agricultural by-products in and around Vienna, "Material Assemblies" reflects on the logistics of using these raw materials as well as on their value on a social, cultural and political level. 

 With the help of the industry's local and international experts the goal of Biofabrique is to experimentally develop recipes, samples, and small-scale series of selected materials that would ultimately point out directions for concrete applications in architecture and design. 

 Collaborators & Partners: Biofabrique Vienna is a pilot project of the Vienna Business Agency and atelier luma, a programme of LUMA Arles, in partnership with Technische Universität Wien.
The design studio is part of LINA European Architecture Platform (co-funded by the European Union) and will be led by LINA fellows Benedetta Pompili and Hannah Caroline Segerkrantz, together with Thomas Amann from TU Wien).

They say the best way to predict the future is to invent it. 💡 As a technologist and a futurist, I spend my days focused on possibility—envisioning a world brimming with solutions to problems we haven't encountered yet. In addition to having an incredible name, #BuckminsterFuller was a talented architect and futurist whose buildings truly broke the mold when it came to design. His creativity is the epitome of where design, innovation, and engineering converge. Imagine if he had passively waited for it to be "okay" or mainstream to show the world his ideas. If you truly think about it, every groundbreaking invention or life-changing technology stemmed from someone daring to try something different. They envisioned a better way and believed not only that they could create it—but that it was already in existence. Remember this the next time you find yourself yearning for a solution that doesn't exist—don't just wait. Embrace that energy, break out of average, and get creative!
