This National Careers Week we are encouraging industry professionals to visit the Careers and Enterprise website to register and Give an Hour. Give an Hour is a really simple and easy way for professionals to register and help support a young person in order to inspire the next generation of construction workers. By taking an hour out of your work to support a young person, you can help them understand the career journey you took, the key skills and behaviours you have learned throughout your career and the people that have helped you to get to where you are now. You can register for free to become a role model for a young person in your area. It may be that the young person doesn’t pursue a career in construction, but your support may be instrumental in helping them to understand the workplace and what employers are wanting to see from young people applying for jobs. Who’s responsible for a new joiners career progression? How about the career progression of a “junior” engineer or a “seasoned” engineer? Should quarterly check-ins and monthly KTs be an expectation for leads, a part of the job criteria? And billable as part of personnel development? Should personal development (hands on technical training) be its own role? How about promotions? Should length of time spent at career level automatically translate into a promotion? It’s mid-year promotion season and as a second time evaluator, I find myself lingering on some of these very same questions. What’s some good advice you’d give to a colleague looking to get promoted? Some tips for approaching a company for placement:- 1) Talk in a well behaved professional way it leaves a good impact. 2) make all your documentation done before approaching. 3) be calm during the process. 4) listen what company needs carefully. 5)try to make them understand what you are looking for. Nowadays companies want smart polished candidates with good knowledge in their field . So maybe these basic things will help you for your first introduction.. Patience and Persistence: My Mantra for a Successful Placement Season 🏁 I'm currently working as a GET Process Engineer at Worley, and I'm loving it! 🎉 I'm so grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow in this role. 🌱 I know that it's my first job, but I'm committed to making the most of it. 💼 I'm eager to learn as much as I can about the process engineering industry, and I'm excited to contribute to the success of Worley📈 I landed this role thanks to my mantra for the placement season: patience and persistence.🧘♀️🧘♂️ The placement season at D.J. Sanghvi College of Engineering is highly competitive, and I had my fair share of rejections. But I never gave up. I kept applying for jobs, practicing for interviews, and learning from my mistakes. I knew that it would take time and effort to find the right job, but I was determined not to give up 💪💪. I'm so glad that I didn't give up during the placement season. If I had, I would have missed out on this amazing opportunity. 🎯 Here are a few tips for current students who are going through the placement season: 1. Be patient and persistent. Don't give up if you don't land your first job right way. Keep applying for jobs, practicing for interviews, and learning from your mistakes. 2. Target the right companies. Do your research and identify the companies that you are most interested in working for, and that align with your skills and experience. 3. Tailor your resume and cover letter to each job you apply for. Take the time to highlight your skills and experience that are most relevant to each specific job. 4. Prepare for interviews. Practice answering common interview questions, and be prepared to discuss your skills, experience, and why you are interested in the company and the role. 5. Follow up after interviews. Send a thank-you note to the interviewer within 24 hours of the interview. This shows your appreciation for their time and consideration.
