Orange County Board of Education Hires New Superintendent, Dr. Danielle Jones Orange County Schools is thrilled to announce the selection and election of Dr. Danielle Jones, a distinguished education leader and US Air Force veteran, as its next superintendent. Dr. Jones’s tenure will officially commence on February 1, 2024. https://lnkd.in/eDSUpgVA After a meticulous review process that included applications from a diverse pool of twenty-six highly qualified candidates from nine different states and territories, the Board of Education enthusiastically chose Dr. Jones based on her extensive track record of success, her exemplary leadership, and her unwavering dedication to students and staff. The Board is confident that Dr. Jones’s vision and expertise will propel the district to new heights of achievement. Dr. Jones currently serves as assistant superintendent for middle schools for Durham Public Schools (DPS), where she supervises twelve principals and ensures the successful implementation of the district’s strategic plan. The schools in her portfolio have consistently made impressive academic gains over time; in 2023, all twelve schools increased proficiency levels, and half were in the top 20% of schools in the state for their academic growth. Prior to becoming assistant superintendent, Dr. Jones served as a coach and principal supervisor for DPS, where her leadership directly contributed to district-high gains in 6th and 8th grade math. Dr. Jones also served as a highly successful principal and assistant principal in Franklin County Schools and a teacher in the Wake County Public School System. She began her career as a middle school teacher in Youngsville, North Carolina. Dr. Jones is a graduate of the North Carolina School Superintendents’ Association (NCSSA) Aspiring Superintendents Executive Leadership Program. Her leadership has been recognized with the 2022 Dr. Sam J. Houston, Jr. Leadership Award from NCSSA and the 2022 Central Office Personnel to Watch Award from the North Carolina Association for Middle Level Education.
