The technical problem addressed by this tech offer at City University of Hong Kong involves the limitations of existing Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs). While these UUVs allow for remote or autonomous operations in aquatic environments, their stability and agility are often compromised. Traditional methods involve propulsion by tail and fin, which can result in unstable movements in varied water flow conditions. Other designs, like torpedoes, can only move in a specific direction, limiting their manoeuvrability and turning capabilities in complex underwater environments. Therefore, there is an avenue for an invention that increases the UUV's stability, agility, and overall movement control, significantly improving underwater exploration and detection capabilities. #techtransfer#licensing#universitieshttps://lnkd.in/dfYT7MEE
UK Maritime Autonomy Regulations; too restrictive or a HSE Necessity?
Vote Below!
Viewpoint: Too Restrictive
MCA maritime autonomous regulations are overly restrictive, stifling innovation and development. They contend that these regulations impose significant compliance costs, reduce efficiency and add technical barriers, which slow down progress and increase operational expenses, particularly for smaller firms.
Viewpoint: HSE Requirements
MCA maritime autonomous regulations are essential for health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements. They emphasize that these rules prevent accidents, protect human lives, and ensure safe operation in diverse maritime environments.

Innovate UK SW Launchpad – Unlocking the potential of Mini-MASS in UK waters
Under the latest UK regulation all Marine Autonomous Surface Ship (MASS) under 24m must comply with the Workboat Code Edition 3 including Annex 2 Remotely Operated Unmanned Vessels (ROUVs). At the smaller end of this sub-24m category, termed ‘mini-MASS’, it could be argued that there is lower associated risk.
As part of our Innovate UK (Launchpad: Marine and Maritime in the Great South-West) project, we are gathering industry opinions on the ‘mini-MASS’ market. Your feedback will help us, and in turn, policy makers understand industry perspectives and influence future policy changes.
Please complete our short questionnaire (approx. 5-10 minutes) to support ‘mini-MASS’ operating in UK waters or registered in the UK but working globally.
Deadline for response: Wednesday 19th June 2024

📣 Exciting news from the #Finnish#Lapland: VTT is conducting essential tests as part of the #ROADVIEW project to enhance the safety of #AVs in #harshweather conditions.
Here is what is happening:
🚔 Braking distance data collection: VTT is collecting data about braking distances in various road conditions from a speed of 70 km/h on both snow and dry asphalt.
🚗 Implementation of the Minimal Risk Manoeuvre (#MRM): VTT is also developing and testing the automated vehicle's MRM fallback function which can safely pull over the vehicle to a road shoulder if needed. In this case, the MRM is triggered during an automated driving speed of 50 km/h.
