This new framework will allow a portion of carbon credits to come from the voluntary market, raising the standards for the integrity of traded credits. This is a positive step towards improving transparency and project quality. It is crucial that we focus our efforts on strengthening the integrity of these markets. Supporting Sustainable Development in Oil Markets

In recent years, several significant climate policies have been introduced globally. The US has implemented the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), Europe has launched its Green Deal, and China has set "dual-carbon goals" with emissions targets for 2030 and 2060. These policies, along with trade regulations, regional protectionism, and the evolving demand environment, create a complex situation. Victoria MacLean, CFA, Associate Fund Manager of the Pengana WHEB Sustainable Impact Fund examines how these factors have affected the Chinese markets for solar panels, electric vehicles (EVs), components, and software. On 21 February 2024, the Green and Sustainable Finance Cross-Agency Steering Group (CASG), co-chaired by Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) in Hong Kong, with The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology launched two greenhouse gas emissions calculation and estimation tools (GHG emissions tools) to facilitate sustainability reporting by corporates and financial institutions in Hong Kong (link to announcement in comment). In 2022, Julius Baer announced our climate targets, including our goal to be net-zero on our own operations by 2030 and to cut business travel emissions by 30% by 2025 ✈. Delighted to share some concrete actions we are taking to achieve our targets. One of these includes supporting a long-term mangrove restoration project in Indonesia, which is expected to capture close to 300,000 tCO2 by 2037. This is about twice the amount of carbon emissions from Julius Baer's operations over the same period.   🌴 Mangroves forests are a vital part of the local ecosystem and are also highly effective carbon sinks. Yet, many of them were severely damaged by the catastrophic tsunami in 2004.
