Sending the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (Queensland)’s 50 Policy Futures Graduates out into the public service this week to start their rotations through departments. My advice to them last week: 🍍Public service is a verb. 🍍Political views are ok, even strongly held ones, as long as you leave them at the door and act impartially in your role. 🍍Give frank, fearless and sound advice. 🍍We serve the government of the day, but our first loyalty is to the people of Queensland. 🍍Process is part of public service- we deal with public money after all. But those who stand out use process to find a way to done and get results. 🍍There’s meaning and purpose in a public service career. But sometimes it takes a few role changes to find it. Myths about Private Post Secondary Career Colleges in Canada Myth: A "myth" is a commonly held but incorrect belief or misconception about a particular subject or entity. Myths about private postsecondary career colleges in Canada can vary widely, reflecting misunderstandings about their value, accreditation, and the quality of education they provide. Here are some common myths along with the realities. There are 7  myths that I would like to share. Today I will start with myth #1 . I invite insights and comments from both the private and public post secondary sectors. Myth 1: They Are Not Accredited, Licensed, Regulated, Recognized …. Reality: To offer recognized diplomas and degrees, private post secondary college programs are licensed and regulated by the government educational department in which the  post secondary college offers their programs of study. In Alberta, the provincial government’s Private Career Colleges Branch of Alberta Advanced Education licenses programs that are offered by private post secondary career colleges. Therefore, the programs are licensed, and the college is a business that must meet all business requirements of the province and city in which they conduct businesses. In other provinces, the college itself  may also be required to meet additional licensing criteria. Licensing  standards ensure that the education provided meets the quality standards set by the licensing body and provides skills and knowledge that are in demand in the Canadian workplace and more specifically in the province in which the programs are being offered. Evidence of labour market demand and employer verification that the curriculum and program structure meets industry standards are required. This evidence in addition to meeting the financial criteria are required to support the application of programs being reviewed for licensing. #education #postsecondary #privatepostsecondary #education #workplace #skillstraining #careers #colleges

What an exciting week, with the release of phase 1 of the Enhancing career education in Queensland state schools initiative. All state school students now have access to the Career Education: Pathways Program - supporting students in years 7 to 10 to make informed decisions about their study options and transition successfully into meaningful pathways. State school staff have access to the Career Education: Pathways Program for Educators, supporting educators deliver high-quality, evidence-informed career education.
