MOL Group has invested €22 million ($23 million) to build what is expected to be the largest green hydrogen production facility in central and eastern Europe, in a significant move towards decarbonising its operations. The 10MW plant, located near Budapest in Százhalombatta, Hungary, is set to begin operations this year, and will be capable of producing 1,600 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. MOL plans to use the clean-burning hydrogen to partially replace natural gas at its nearby Danube Refinery, reducing the plant's fuel emissions by 25,000 tonnes. "Today, our new green hydrogen plant is only making MOL's industrial operations greener, but tomorrow it will offer solutions for the whole industry and hydrogen mobility," said MOL Group CEO József Molnár. Everfuel and Hy24 JV announced as marginal winner of Danish PtX tender. By Edward Laity The Everfuel and Hy24 joint venture (JV) has been awarded a Danish Power-to-X (PtX) tender for green hydrogen production and supply after it was named winner. The tender’s built-in subsidy will provide support for operating expenses and is recognised per kilogramme of green hydrogen produced, expected to run for 10 years, dependent on the operational performance of the project. The two companies first announced the €200m ($211m) JV in February (2023), with aims to accelerate the development of green hydrogen infrastructure in the Nordics. Know-how and trust built up over many years from the family business form a valuable basis for the cooperation and its development.   All steps towards the 1.5-degree target must always be thought of in European terms, or even globally.
