Day 2 of the Linux Plumbers Conference had me chasing tracks back and fourth across Omni. From eBPF journeys to pci power management, profiling with perf and dTrace and down to the Kernel Development Learning Pipeline it has been exciting. Lately, we have started to cleanup the device tree bindings of various Microchip/Atmel drivers in text format to the standard JSON schema and have been submitting the patches upstream. The community has been kind enough to review our patches and guiding us through to get the patches accepted/merged staying true to the open-source philosophy. Day 19: Hi Embedded Enthusiasts 🚀, In the previous post, we saw the kernel entry arguments. https://lnkd.in/gvgumtte According to the flow diagram, the boot loader hands off control to the bootstrap loader. The file name is head.S and the routine is "start". The head.S is located at arch/arm/boot/compressed/ https://lnkd.in/gbNCy-ss Here you can see that r1(machine ID) is saved to r7 and r2(DTB) is saved to r8. After that head.S file of bootstrap loaded calls misc.c in order to decompress the kernel. https://lnkd.in/gUaBCnpK https://lnkd.in/gGNHrrrv You can check the prints of decompress_kernel "Uncompressing Linux... done, booting the kernel." in your linux boot log. Then the control from head.S of Linux's Boot strap loader is transferred to another head.S of Linux Kernel. Linux Kernel 6.10 Released: What’s New Linus Torvalds has announced Linux Kernel 6.10, packed with new features and enhancements: - Memory Sealing: Introduces `mseal()` for enhanced memory security. - Rust Support: Now includes RISC-V architecture. - File System Improvements: Zstandard compression for EROFS. - Security Enhancements: TPM bus encryption, shadow stack support for x32. - Performance Boosts: Improved AES-XTS encryption, zoned write plugging, and OCFS2 write performance.
