Happy National Coming Out Day! 🏳️🌈 As a course manager for a Web Development program that's held specifically for women and folks of marginalized genders, creating a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment is always one of my biggest priorities. While 100% of learners enrolled in my current course affirmed that LaunchCode provides a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment in a recent survey, I deeply recognize that this isn't always the case for other workplaces or classrooms. To contribute to the cause of creating more safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ individuals, I've compiled a few resources below! Feel free to explore these resources, add your own, and join the journey toward creating a more safe and inclusive world! 🌈 🌎 ✨ 1. Diversity initiatives at two Virginia universities may be at risk -- following the trend of targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion programming in higher ed across the country. It is crucial that DEI education remains comprehensive and effective for the safety and success of underserved students. Our mission of empowering LGBTQ students through education includes promoting an environment of equity and inclusion that these attacks seek to dismantle. https://lnkd.in/gcRsCUCD

"Student success" is more than academic achievements. Higher education is about, "equipping and launching students into a new chapter of life post-graduation," says Principal and Higher Education Leader Nicole Nichols, AIA. In order to accomplish this, campus #planning and #design must embrace and engage the mosaic of students that make up these institutions. One such example is at the @University of Miami where veterans, LGBTQ+, and members of the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs converge. Nicole shares the #casestudy and its impact within our "Evolution of Campus 4.0" research: https://bit.ly/3sxgLdk #HigherEducation #HigherEducationDesign #EvolutionofCampus

Over the past two years, we've awarded more than $1 million to schools across the United States, funding projects that uplift, empower, and support the well-being of local LGBTQ+ students. With the need to support LGBTQ+ youth more important than ever, we're doing it again.50 States, 50 Grants, 5000 Voices is back for a third year, and we want to make schools better for LGBTQ+ students. We know not all of you are educators... or LGBTQ+ students. But chances are if you're supporting our work, you know a teacher or an LGBTQ+ student. And that means we need your help. We can only award grant money if folks apply. We need you to send this email to anyone and everyone who might benefit from this grant money. Maybe it's to build a gender-affirming closet. Sponsor a school-wide Pride festival. Fill a library with LGBTQ+ inclusive books. The possibilities are ENDLESS. And if you happen to know someone in one of the following places — Alaska, Florida, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Washington D.C. — even better. This year there will be a special emphasis on prioritizing those states where projects have yet to be funded. Middle and high school students and teachers across the U.S., Washington DC, and U.S. territories can apply now through April 1. This year's grant opportunity is supported by AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS INC. and its customers, the MAC Cosmetics, and Tumblr. We can't wait to see those applications.
