Three firm lawyers are speaking at the American Bar Association - Section of Taxation 2024 Midyear Tax Meeting held January 18–20, 2024 at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco, CA.   On Friday, January 19th, Firm Partner, Jeffrey M. Glassman and Firm Associate, Devin H. are speaking as part of the Court Procedure & Practice Session. Jeff will be participating in a panel discussion titled, "Nuts and Bolts of Refund Litigation." The panelists will discuss procedural considerations in refund litigation, including: relevant statutes of limitation; choice of forum; pleadings, discovery; motions; and trial practice. Devin will be moderating a panel discussion titled, "Current Developments," in which the panelists will discuss significant updates from the Tax Court as well as the key priorities of, and significant litigation involving, the IRS and Tax Division. On Saturday, January 20th, Firm Partner, Mary Wood will be moderating a panel discussion titled, "Strategical Issues in the Evolving ERC Enforcement Arena," as part of the Civil & Criminal Tax Penalties Session (Chaired by Firm Partner, Michael Villa, Jr.). The presentation will give an overview of the ERC program and the high incidence of fraud or suspected fraud. The panel will cover recent developments, including the IRS’s settlement program that was announced in September, recent IRS civil and criminal enforcement, and defense strategies for clients with various types or degrees of exposure.
