"Why should I hire someone junior?"   Fair question. Junior talent can be risky. On the flip side, junior people often: 1. Are incredibly hungry to learn and improve 2. Bring a fresh perspective and new ideas for doing things 3. Are happy to learn your current processes to then optimise/automate them (in a way that senior hires don't have the patience for) Jumpstart has proven time and time again that junior hires can be some of the best hires a startup makes.   Proof in point: Edoardo Ricci joined Abatable as a Business Development Associate back in April last year after Abatable pitched to Jumpstart's sales stream (see video 👇).   Edo now runs the FULL end to end sales process for one of Abatable's tools and has clearly impressed Abatable enough that they've come back to hire another Jumpstarter - who is joining in a few weeks time...

‘Why did you start ditto?’ Simply put, to enable organisations to keep, and develop, their people. We were done with seeing some of our incredibly qualified friends being made redundant. Friends who simply ooze brilliance ⭐️ We realised organisations have no other way of temporarily reducing their overheads when times are tough. Dave once had to make half of his team redundant, to only have to double that team in size 12 months later. ❌ It made no sense. Why lose all that talent, in an environment when skills are so in demand? So, we’ve created a better way, using a not-so-new method: secondments. We’re ditto, the secondments marketplace. We’ve already saved organisations tens of thousands of 💰, and they are finally able to keep their brilliant minds in their organisation. We’re 5 months old today. And we’re just getting started. 🚀

GrowTal just hit its 4 year anniversary! Here is what I have learned running 2 businesses in tandem. Focus is key to driving success in early stage startups and running more than one is guaranteed to split focus. There were times where my focus on one business was a detriment to the other. True delegation is key to allowing multiple businesses to thrive. Having the right people in the right seats is key to allowing for this to work, but not meddling in their operational processes is also a key factor. Chris King Wong, Sarah Little, Emily Reynders, and Kimberly Chau were all instrumental to our early and continued success. In a bootstrapped business, slow steady progress is perfectly acceptable. At times we fell victim to comparing ourselves to VC backed competitors and tried to push initiatives that required far more capital than we were willing to invest. Success is ultimately gained by providing unquestionable value to our customers who are comprised both of the experts in our network and the clients that we serve. The biggest unlock in the business has been to focus on recruiting the best possible talent while delivering the best possible service. It's not rocket science at the end of the day. Hire great people, empower them, focus on providing value and be patient. We are now growing faster than ever and I couldn't be more excited for the things to come. 🎉 I have now reached one year at Gable! Joining a startup as the first employee is risky, no matter how great the idea, founders, or momentum are. But this job was a rare opportunity I had to seize. 🚀 For context, I've tried building a venture-backed startup before, which failed between us building an MVP and trying to secure seed funding. Working at Gable, specifically reporting to the Co-founder/CEO, has allowed me to see what it takes to go from seed investment to beyond. More importantly, it's informing me whether or not I want to try to be a venture-backed founder again (still TBD). 👇🏽 In the past year, I have learned how to: - Develop and implement a GTM strategy in the B2B SaaS space-- including hitting my aggressive targets in less than a year. - Build out our entire marketing and sales tech stack (surprisingly, very similar to data stacks). - Create the strategies and processes to generate thousands of leads and hundreds of discovery calls. 💯 In addition to these marketing and sales skills I'm learning (essential for any entrepreneur), I have also become substantially more technical despite coding way less. From writing the O'Reilly book to creating deep technical content on various platforms, it has given me the space to think through my previous experiences as a data practitioner and how they fit within the overall architecture of data systems. Furthermore, the countless calls with data leaders and practitioners discussing their architectures and pain points have just exposed me to way more use cases. 💜 In short, this has been one of the best career moves I have ever made, and I can't wait to see what the next year holds! 📸 [The picture below is the Gable team from our launch party in Vegas!]

It’s been 5 months since Dragonite and I joined Mojo Crowe. It was a challenge to make the move, but now I can't believe how much I’ve grown in such a short time. So here are my 3 biggest learnings, and I hope it inspires you if you are considering making a move, too 💪 1- Working and talking to brilliant people makes a massive difference in a role. I will never forget that for my next career moves. This is one of the core things that makes working at Mojo so great. 2- It’s fine if you haven’t done something before. Just go and do it. You’ll learn and do it better next time. I just ask ChatGPT what questions I should ask myself to make sure I’m not forgetting anything and boom! Just try 🙌 3- The obstacles are the path. It’s not what happens that matters, but how you react. Working at Mojo is a constant reminder of the importance of perspective. And as Ben always says, your greatest growth comes from your darkest times! Bonus - If you are torn between startup VS big corporations, this is for you. I wasn’t sure either. In 5 months, I measured again how important it is for me to see the impact of my work. That's all I need, and right now I'm getting that. How good? After four incredible months at GoRocky, I am leaving with a wealth of knowledge and experience. 🧡 I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to our CEO, Kiyanusch, for teaching me so much about building a venture and navigating the startup space. I am also incredibly thankful to our Category Lead, Joey, for mentoring me throughout my journey, especially in areas that were initially unfamiliar to me in category development. I feel truly fortunate to have worked closely with such passionate visionaries. Here are some key takeaways from my time at GoRocky: 📝 Making mistakes are essential. A startup’s foundation is solidified by the errors and failures it encounters. 📝 Be obsessed with your customer. Whether in operations, customer experience, customer service, marketing, or category development, it is not enough to merely know the customer; one must also empathize to fully understand and meet their needs. 📝 Culture and relationships are important. As we learn in business school, employees are your most valuable asset. GoRocky's culture and work flexibility made me motivated, efficient, and happy. 📝 A startup requires openness, adaptability, and flexibility. As a venture development intern, I had the opportunity to research and validate concepts, build an MVP, test different typeforms in new markets, create and test several Shopify landing pages, and launch key products on our e-commerce platforms.
