Last year, some colleagues and I embarked on a 🚴 cycling trip from 🇬🇧London to 🇫🇷Paris in support of Alexander Jansons Myocarditis UK charity and I learned a few valuable lessons: - Sharing challenging experiences can foster deeper interpersonal connections and enhance group cohesion among colleagues. - How can I ask people to donate money if I don’t challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone? - I’ve rediscovered the beauty my country 🇫🇷 and its landscape like never before; sightseeing while cycling is truly underrated. -I’m amazed at how cyclists can endure hours on a saddle that feels like wood without complaining 😅 Well, this year, we're at it again. Really interesting thoughts from Betsmart Consulting earlier on around the ASA's rules stating that no sports personalities under the age of 25 should be used to promote a gambling brand. I think from a protecting the young and the vulnerable perspective, it's entirely appropriate. Ultimately, there's been enough headlines around Littler's progress and performance over the last few weeks that he's unarguably become a household name. Every time such a young person comes to the fore in any sport, we see a surge in children and younger people being interested in the sport (not necessarily betting on it, mind you) and with that comes the risk that this rule is designed to mitigate: young people crossing the line from being interested in the sports personality into becoming influenced by their marketing partnerships into betting and gaming. I'm interested to hear others' thoughts on this.

Slip! Slap! Swing! with a Kent charity. With golfers at a high risk of skin cancer, sun protection on the fairways - whether you’re a golfer of greenkeeper - is vital. Incidence of melanoma has nearly tripled in the UK in the last 30 years and the reason the Melanoma Fund, a small Kent based charity, created the Slip! Slap! Swing! campaign. Launched in 2019, with the support of leading golf organisations, this free campaign is used in over 500 golf clubs, helping set better standards around sun protection, to take skin cancer off the fairways. With only 42% of golfers admitting to wearing sunscreen when the weather required it, and 72% never reapplying it when on the fairway, it is no wonder that golfers are 2.4 times more likely to suffer from skin cancer than the general population. To act on this, and get accredited to the Slip! Slap! Swing! campaign, a golf club simply needs to sign up and use the educational resources within the club house, on their website and socials. They can even order a sunboard for the club, which can be sponsored to make this an affordable asset. Looking for a charity? Golazo Events in the Netherlands and @kwfkankerbestrijding join forces! 🤝 KWF will once again be linked as a charity to various events in the Netherlands in the coming years. From being diagnosed with testicular cancer in July 2022 to scoring the winning goal for your country in the AFCON final in Feb 2024... Ivory Coast, Emerse Faé and Sébastien Haller's journey from effective elimination to victory is the true meaning of strength in adversity. On January 24th, in their last group stage game of the African Cup of Nations, The Ivorians were smashed 4-0 by Equatorial Guinea, a team ranked 88th in the world. Barring a miracle, needing a number of results to go in their favour, their tournament which they were the hosts of, was all but ended. So they parted ways with their head coach Jean Louis Gasset. The miracle they needed happened, and with every result going in their favour, somehow Ivory Coast progressed as one of the 'best' third-placed teams - and they did so without a manager. They tried to make an audacious attempt to loan a previous manager, Hervé Renard, from his current role as the French national women’s team manager, a move that unsurprisingly fell flat on its face. So they turned to Emerse Faé, their assistant manager who had never managed a full senior competitive game in his life. His first ever game in management was against the current holders, Senegal. 4 minutes from being knocked out, they equalised, eventually winning the game on penalties, knocking out the pre-tournament favourites in the process. In the quarter-finals, against Mali, despite playing over half the game with a player sent off, and again, facing exit from the tournament, Ivory Coast scored in stoppage time to take the match to extra time. They scored again with seconds left of extra time to advance to the semi finals which they won 1-0 against Congo to advance to the final. And in what was only Emerse Faé's fourth ever game in management, the final of the African Cup of Nations, his team came from behind to beat Nigeria 2-1, with Sébastien Haller scoring the winning goal a year and a half after being diagnosed with, and then beating testicular cancer. Instability and chaos are often realities we seek to avoid in our lives and our work. But desiring perfect, stress-free ways of working doesn't help when instability and chaos inevitably occur. 'High performing' individuals and teams expose themselves to failure and understand their purpose so that experiencing chaos can be quickly organised - something which was evident in the short-tenure leadership of Fae. As much as the result yesterday pained me, Ivory Coast, Haller and Faé very much deserved to have the fairytale ending to a quite insane story. Emerse Faé, employee of the month.
