Today, we commemorate #Juneteenth, a pivotal moment in American history and the long and painful era of enslavement. Though the Emancipation Proclamation took effect on January 1, 1863, ostensibly freeing those enslaved in Confederate States, Juneteenth marks the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reaching the most distant corners of Confederate territory with Union troops arriving in Galveston Bay, Texas on June 19, 1865. Meanwhile, the Thirteenth Amendment would still be necessary to end slavery throughout the United States. Juneteenth is a celebration of #emancipation, #resilience, and the enduring spirit of the African American community. It's a day to reflect on the progress made and the work still needed to achieve true #equality and #justice in all aspects of life, including healthcare. By codifying fundamental freedoms, it won over States skeptical of a Federal Government at the time of our founding and proved our Constitution to be a living document. On December 15, 1791, three-fourths of the existing State legislatures ratified the first 10 Amendments of the Constitution—the Bill of Rights. These Amendments protect some of the most indispensable rights and liberties that define us as Americans. Though we have often struggled to live up to the promises they contain, 230 years after the ratification of the Bill of Rights, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms remains at the center of our democracy." Today, on the 4th of July, we reflect on the significance of Independence Day for America. It stands as a symbol of liberty, justice, and freedom, echoing the values enshrined in the American Declaration of Independence. This day holds profound meaning in the context of decolonization from the colonial British tyranny, marking a pivotal moment in history that shaped the course of nations around the world. #BostonTeaParty #SonsOfLiberty Their simple intolerable acts of "throwing the tea into Boston Harbor" demanding "no taxation without representation" ushered a new era in this new world. Beyond that, I believe the Independence Day of America prompts us to contemplate the essence of scientific temperament, reason, and working on bias of all forms. During the past one decade stay (11+ yrs now) in this country as an immigrant, I found majority of these ideals are still alive and working well most of the time. Those values I have learned over time helped me as well to evolve as an individual and as a professional. There are moments of exceptions and deviations. That is a normal discourse of human society and civilizations. That's why, the occasion of the 4th of July serves as a reminder of the principles that underpin a free society, advocating for critical thinking, equality, and the pursuit of truth.
