Youth involvement in community planning, decision making, and action hasn’t received a lot of attention in the past, but youth are becoming increasingly involved in community development. Youth collaboration can benefit community nonprofit organizations, volunteer programs, and nongovernmental organizations in the following ways: Youth can be an effective planning and evaluation resource. Younger members can help long-term community efforts because they’re in a position to become long-term contributors. Involved youth can help organizations become more aware of issues that concern younger populations, which can increase an organization’s impact.

Facilitator of Inclusive + Participatory Planning, Learning , and Strategy-Building for nonprofits, funders, networks, and collaboratives ☆ Deep roots in Southern Appalachia and Western NC
The "Ladder of Participation" is a framework that always fires people up in my Inclusive Planning and Responsive Strategy workshop - this brilliant tool draws on the Ladder and deepens, updates, and details the different ways communities can have power (or not) in decision making. Such a great way to think about how organizations can shift power and decision making to those most impacted.
Sending a wave of gratitude and admiration to our friends at the @Participatory Budgeting Project for their recent blog post: "Tools for Participatory Democracy: Spectrum of Community Engagement to Ownership." 📚✨ This blog spotlights a groundbreaking tool co-developed by Rosa González of network partners Facilitating Power. It acts as a navigational aid, supporting nonprofits, community groups, and public agencies to evaluate and enhance their public and community decision making practices critically. But this spectrum is more than a tool — it's the spark for essential conversations and a guide towards redefining our civic engagement efforts. It urges us to reflect on the depth of community participation, the importance of equity and accessibility, and the goal of achieving true community ownership. Immerse yourself in the blog to discover how you can play a part in fostering a more participatory democracy: https://lnkd.in/gEZZkXSX #CommunityEngagement #ParticipatoryDemocracy

Impacting Lives Through Empowering Individuals | Volunteer leader, Certified Enneagram Coach, Licensed Solemniser | ChFC®, AEPP®, IBFA
Community is more than a place. It's about the lives we touch and the impact we make. Chairing the Punggol West Community Centre Management Committee... I have seen the power of community engagement. It creates a space where people feel supported, connected, and empowered. The impact? We nurture a sense of belonging and mutual support. From youth programs to initiatives for the elderly, our efforts are designed to make sure no one feels left out or behind. Why this matters... In a world that's increasingly digital. The human connection matters more than ever. Our work in the community is a reminder of the tangible difference we can make in each other's lives. Here's what I've learned... Every contribution, no matter how small, has the potential to spark change. Whether it's volunteering a few hours, participating in a clean-up, or simply lending an ear to someone in need, it all adds up. And the best part? The joy of seeing our community... Come together. Overcome challenges. Celebrate achievements. Witnessing this strength in action is truly rewarding. So, here's my invitation to you: Get involved. Make an impact. Your community needs you. And trust me, the fulfillment you'll find in service is unparalleled. Together, let's make a difference. Not just for today, but for generations to come. #WeMakeImpact

As part of our series to share the perspectives of our NFP Partners, we would like to share insights by Frances Pace, Director of Fundholder and Community Engagement, at Oakville Community Foundation. Question: Why are collaborative, innovative projects, such as the Life Skills Project, so important for community development? Answer: The Oakville Community Foundation's Strategic Plan is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals with a Mission "to build Community through Philanthropy" and a Vision of "A Community Where No one is Left Behind". To that end, we incorporate the following values in our work: responsive leadership; solutions-driven (i.e., we will conduct collaborative research to identify community needs and related solutions); integrity; equity; and lastly collaboration. We recognize the enhanced benefits to all when we collaborate and contribute to creating solutions and we will encourage collaboration to build lasting partnerships, reduce duplication and bridge gaps in the funding and delivery of identified needed services for our community. #sheridanresearch #collegeinnovation #nserc #homelessness
