Disability | Inclusion advocate | Coaching | Keynote speaker | Delivering Change through experience and knowledge
What the Paralympics are teaching employers about inclusion and accessibility? It’s widely reported people with disability are almost two times less likely to be employed than people without disability. When it comes to management and leadership positions, the number of people with disability plummets. Hiring people with disability is not just ‘the right thing to do’. People with disability aren’t token hires to make your organisational statistics look better or fulfil your corporate social responsibility expectations. They’re capable, accomplished talent, just like any other hire, and they bring serious skills to businesses. Learning how to adapt is the key. Paralympics Australia

Semi Pro Footballer | Football Coach | Public Speaker | Facilitator | Mental Health Trainer | Writer |
what does it mean to be semi-professional? quite simply, semi-professional means self-funded. it means you're still expected to behave, train, and commit like a professional, but you quite often still end up paying to play at this level. one of the biggest problems in the women's game is that this is what's expected of so many female athletes - they're expected to be professional, to give up work, to commit 15+ hours a week to training, gym, analysis etc, but without the pay. and the main reason so many of these athletes aren't professional? it's not because they're not good enough, it's because there aren't enough fully professional teams in their sport. quite often, only the top tier of women's sporting divisions are fully professional and paid adequately. in the men's? you can play for a 6th tier soccer club over here (UK) and still earn more than what a female would in a semi-professional (tier 2 or 3) environment. women's sport needs more investment. semi-professional shouldn't still mean self-funded. https://lnkd.in/er3auMJA

Occupational performance advisor/ Employee Wellness / Occupational Mental and Social Health / Neurodiversity in the workplace
In the world of sports, we often witness incredible feats of physical strength and resilience. Today, I want to shine a light on a different kind of strength, the strength it takes to prioritise mental health. I'm inspired by the recent announcement from the captain of the English rugby team, Owen Farrell, who has decided to take a break to focus on his mental well-being. In a culture that sometimes places an overwhelming emphasis on toughness, it takes true courage to step back and prioritize one's mental health. As a public figure he is sending a powerful message: mental health matters, and seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. In a society that often glorifies the grind, this decision is a reminder that success isn't solely measured by victories at work but also by the ability to recognise when a timeout is necessary. Let's use this moment to reflect on our own lives and workplaces. Are we fostering environments that encourage open conversations about mental health? Are we creating spaces where individuals feel supported in prioritizing their well-being? Farrell's decision is a testament to the fact that taking care of our mental health is a vital aspect of personal and professional success. Let's applaud his courage and use this opportunity to promote a culture of empathy and understanding in all aspects of our daily lives. #MentalHealthMatters #Leadership #WellBeing #Inspiration #empathy
🏉 England Rugby captain’s decision to prioritise #MentalHealth could inspire other athletes: theOThub.com/updates (Plus+). 'Most elite athletes are at the peak of their sport when they’re already at higher risk of experiencing poor mental health... Hiring qualified occupational therapists may be one way to ensure that players get the support they need. #OccupationalTherapists would be able to assess athletes holistically and help them engage with activities that are meaningful to them outside of their career. This could help provide more balance in an athlete’s identity, and better prepare them for life after sport.'

Senior High Performance Manager | Project Director ParaCoach |PhD Loughborough University | Elite Coach: Sprints & S&C.
Been a great start to semester 2 leading the new Effective Coaching in Paralympic Sport module. Drawing on the ParaCoach eLearning course and support from external agencies, students have engaged in a learning journey that attempts to help them become reflexive about the ways ableism influences sporting practice. This is very important because ableist values, communications and practices constrain and disable people with impairment in all sporting contexts. #disability #paralympics #empowerment #sport #inclusion #eliteperformance #elitesport #parasport #disabilitysport #ljmu

Swindon and Wiltshire FA IAG ⚽️ & SSPC & STFC Trust Inclusion & Diversity Could I please get some feedback from yourselves & communities on: 1. What’s required to make the sports facilities in the Buckhurst Field area feel safe and inclusive from groups who typically have low physical activity and sport participation rates- women/girls, ethnic minorities, deprive communities, people with disabilities or long-term health conditions. 2. What specifications does a Playzone need to include to meet the requirements of local clubs and organisations to book this facility regularly? 3. What is required to ensure sports facilities in the Buckhurst Field area will be as accessible as possible to under-represented communities? 4. What sports facilities would you like to have in the Playzone alongside football? Exciting early conversations in Swindon about meeting today's demand and the future demand for sport, physical activity, exercise, leisure and health professionals. Plenty of opportunity to understand the demand for these types of jobs, meet it with local professionals who can do this training/education, create job opportunities in this sector, but to also provide young people and career switchers with skills for life. To this day the early coaching badges and coaching experiences I got as a teenager are still paying dividends in my career. If sport isn't a lifelong career, it is certainly a fantastic primer for boosting our local economy in whatever you go on to do.
A massive thank you to everyone who attended our first Swindon and Wiltshire Sport and Physical Activity Skills Board 🙌 Also a massive thank you to Emma Guthrie and Ryan Taylor for hosting our first meeting at New College Swindon A great first meeting already highlighting some opportunities to better connect in the region to support local Sport and Physical Activity workforce!
