I found myself in business. This sentence has two meanings for me. Firstly, I became an entrepreneur by accident. I had no clear vision for being a businessman. Secondly, in the process of building a business I found myself. I’ve experienced entrepreneurship as a journey to self-discovery. As a teenager I never knew what I wanted to be. I took a squiggly path based on what was energising, interesting and immediately available. There was no clear direction. I just followed my nose. And while trying to figure out my career path, I ended up working for myself. I started my own business because I wanted to be valued for my own worth and have the freedom to work on my terms. I didn’t want a boss and I didn’t want to rely on others. As my professional path emerged, I found more than just a career - I found myself. And the self I found needed community. I’d always believed that I had to do everything on my own. I now believe that without others any success is empty. I discovered the importance of community and connection. I discovered that I can thrive when I depend on others and collaborate on my ideas. Strong networks and close communities have became essentials in my life.
