Back on #ces2024 prep and came across this story about the new collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차). One of the things I found interesting is that it specifically says Imagineering as opposed to just Disney, one of the first times I've seen that. As entertainment companies find that consumer attention is becoming infinitely divided, they will continue to look for ways to engage in a clutter-free environment. Owning the car environment is a new frontier and The Walt Disney Company has the brand equity to make this work. While there's a lot more they can do, like custom content, interesting use of AR while driving (passengers, not driver), etc., I have no doubt this car will sell out as soon as it's available. 𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁? This ad for Apple's Vision Pro is 15-seconds of pure genius. It's clearly very cramped. Small screens at the back of seats. The guy is sitting in the middle seat. But he's got the 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝘆. As you watch this, the sense of freedom is palpable. Just for this, I suspect many of us (present company included) wish we could run out and splash the cash (all US$3,500 of it!) on the Vision Pro. According to reviews - that compare Meta's Quest 3 to the Vision Pro - Apple's hardware is so good that "𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘢 𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘢-𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦...𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘛𝘝." And that other thing that made the iPhone so successful eventually - the App store. Throw all this in, and you might even forget you're in the middle seat! But back to my hook above about this being the future of IFE... I'm aware of one airline which already has plans to introduce this come July (hello Beond!) and I can't wait to see who else will do so. Given the price point, I fully expect this to be offered in First or Business only... I've since seen a few more reviews of this inflight (see the comments section below for the links). Really exciting to explore UX in this space 🤩 2024 will certainly be a year to push the boundaries of immersive experiences! ⭐️ The apps I’m keen to try are simple, but engaging and functional…or so it would seem. - Both built in… Mindfulness: something I already practice, though with no formal structure…or 3d motion graphics 😜. Keen to see the “trainers” available. Keynote: which allows the user to rehearse a presentation in an immersive environment. A fellow designer built a POC of something similar in 2019, allowing students to practice their public speaking in a VR environment, something I think most higher learning facilities will have on hand! 💬 Please comment below, I’d love to know your “must experience” VR apps or concepts you’ve seen! This may be an unpopular opinion, but after watching Nas Daily's video featuring Mobileye's new self-driving car technology, I felt compelled to share my thoughts. Known for his ability to create short, immersive videos, Nas's latest offering left me with mixed feelings. The video is full of Nas's usual energy, diving into the technical side of building the car and integrating cameras. But as someone a bit wary of this new tech, I was left wanting more. What about the practical benefits and unique features of this car? How does it stand out from the rest? Instead, the focus seemed more on glorifying Mobileye as a brand rather than giving us a real taste of their product. It felt like Nas presented the brand image more than the product. It got me thinking that the video missed the real point of it. As a consumer who will purchase this car, do we need to know how they built the product? Did Apple ever show us how they built the iPhone? Does anyone want to hear how they built it? Well, maybe the enthusiasts, the engineers, but not the regular people who watch simple videos on social media. What's your take on this? What do you think? I finally got my hands on Apple’s Vision Pro! 🤩 Now I do agree that it may not be comfortable for prolonged use, but Apple has done it again — it has created yet another technological marvel. And here are a few reasons why I think that: 1. I was amazed by how seamlessly and fast the Vision Pro detects eye movements and the pinch selection gesture. 2. The immersive environments were absolutely incredible and stunning. 3. It is SO much fun to view photos taken in spatial mode! 4. Watching a movie on it is like your personal theater, which is really cool. 5. Gaming was a lot of fun and the visuals felt and looked stunning. 6. But what really took my breath away was the immersive shows on Apple TV. It is nothing like you have experienced before in 3D, 4D, or IMAX. You feel so close to the characters, action, and environment, that it feels like you are really there! The Vision Pro is definitely worth experiencing and I am excited to see how it evolves along with the whole ecosystem around it. #AppleVisionPro #TechNews #AppleVisionProReview #Techie #TechLove
