A new report by Research and Markets projects that the global market for quantum computing hardware will surpass $9.1 billion by 2028, driven primarily by the government, energy, and transportation sectors. These industries will leverage quantum computing for simulation, optimization, and sampling applications. Managed Quantum Computing services (using QC as a service without owning the hardware) are predicted to reach $328 million by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 47.3%. Quantum computing based on superconducting (cooling) loops technology is anticipated to hit $4.5 billion within the same timeframe. The unique capabilities of quantum bits (qubits) allow quantum computing to perform certain computations vastly superior to conventional methods. The technology promises transformative impacts on various sectors, including data processing, communications, digital commerce, and security. Atom Computing is the first to announce a 1,000+ qubit quantum computer! Atom Computing, a developer of neutral atom-based quantum computers, has achieved a significant milestone by building a 1,225-site atomic array containing 1,180 qubits. This accomplishment follows their creation of a 100-qubit system in 2021. Atom Computing is the first quantum company to reach the 1,000-qubit mark in a gate-based system, surpassing IBM's 433-qubit Osprey QPU. Atom Computing's new device is not yet available to beta users but is expected to be broadly available in 2024. The company's approach leverages the advantages of neutral atoms, including long coherence times, mid-circuit measurement, high fidelities, error correction, and logical qubits. Riverlane and NQCP are teaming up to work on quantum error correction; focusing first on superconducting qubits and then broadening to other qubit technologies.   Riverlane is a quantum tech company focused on error correction with offices in Cambridge, Boston and San Francisco. Their mission is to make quantum computing useful far sooner than previously imaginable. They recently showcased the world’s first quantum error correction chip and world’s most powerful quantum decoder.   The focus of this collaboration is to leverage error correction to accelerate the path to fault tolerant quantum computing. Thanks to WOMANIUM, I explored the virtual labs of industry leaders like D-Wave, Quera, IonQ, IBM, and Xanadu. Witnessing quantum concepts in action was mind-blowing. Beyond theory, I dived into practical aspects, including interfacing qubits and Silicon-based Quantum Computing. Today, we'll dive into two key properties of quantum qubits that form the foundation of quantum computing: #QuantumSuperposition and #Entanglement 1️⃣ Quantum superposition: Unlike classical binary bits that can only represent a single value (0 or 1), a qubit can be in a superposition of both states. This means a qubit can represent a 0, a 1, or any combination of both states simultaneously 2️⃣ Entanglement: In quantum computing, processors can create pairs of interconnected qubits in a single quantum state. Changes in one qubit automatically result in corresponding changes in the entangled qubit, as long as the system remains perfectly isolated. Quantum startup Atom Computing has created a 1,225-site atomic array in its next-generation quantum computing platform, making it the first quantum computer to exceed 1,000 qubits. The array is currently populated with 1,180 qubits, a new record for a universal gate-based quantum computer, more than double that of IBM’s Osprey system, which has 433 qubits. A 64-Qubit Quantum Computer with Cloud Access Fujitsu Corporation in Japan has launched a new quantum computer using superconducting qubits. The system is physically installed at Osaka University, but access to it will be via a cloud platform. The 64-qubit chip was provided by RIKEN. Clients will be able to test new software and explore ways to use quantum resources. Among the potential applications of the system are the development of advanced materials and pharmaceuticals, as well as solving environmental issues.
