🌍 What is the European Health Data Space, and how is EIT Health involved? The EHDS is a health-specific ecosystem aiming to: 1️⃣ Empower individuals with increased digital access and control of their electronic personal health data. 2️⃣ Foster a single market for electronic health records and medical devices. 3️⃣ Provide a reliable set-up for using health data for research, innovation and policymaking. With the regulation potentially becoming operational in 25 Member States in 2025, the EIT Health Think Tank is engaging with key stakeholders nationally to understand the complexities of implementing the EHDS within existing infrastructure across Europe. The European Parliament has just adopted the #EuropeanHealthDataSpace (#EHDS), a key pillar for the #EuropeanHealthUnion. The #agreement reached is of utmost 🔝 importance for a better healthcare for citizens, for a transformative data-driven research and innovation, and for the development of a more personalised medicine.  Understanding this groundbreaking regulation and the health data scenario it will open is crucial for researchers, innovators, patients, policymakers and for society as a whole. Biocat, BioRegion of Catalonia, ScanBalt BioRegion, Council of European BioRegions - CEBR and Health Cluster Portugal -the EDAH - European Data Space in Health project consortium-, with the support of the #FlemishGovernment, Sciensano and Sitra, organise a #debate in the framework of the #BelgiumPresidency of the Council of the European Union. The activity, a side event of the 28-29 May High-Level Conference on #PersonalisedMedicine organised by the Flemish Government, will update the state of the EHDS, connect it to EU-wide initiatives like TEHDAS, EPPermed or 1Million Genomes, and discuss scenarios of EHDS implementation, with examples and good practices at Member State or Regional level, highlighting opportunities for advancing personalised treatments in both public and private research areas. Recording now available! 🔴 ⤵️ Experts gathered in our #OBSwebinars series to reflect on the challenges faced by hospitals today and to discuss what we can learn for future reform. 1️⃣ Reform is an ongoing process. Centralization and quality management combined with tight guidelines works in some services, whereas for others the solution is data-driven process, nurturing a professional culture of evaluation. The Danish model tries to factor in these aspects, as shown by keynote Karsten Vrangbæk, Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen (🇩🇰). 2️⃣ In his presentation of the Estonian Person-Centered Integrated Hospital Master Plan, Agris Koppel (East-Tallinn Central Hospital, 🇪🇪) outlined important elements for the future of integrated care: 🚸 matching social & medical services 💰 new financing models 🔎 new skill-sets for health personnel 📲 e-health integration. 3️⃣ Hospitals must be given resources - technical, human or financial - to support the transition to the integrated care model, explains Karine Chevreul (Inserm, 🇫🇷) while presenting the French GHT reform. 4️⃣ Our Research Director Reinhard Busse (Technische Universität Berlin, 🇩🇪) discussed the proposed reform for the German hospital sector. He highlighted the importance of a needs-based model, one where health services are grouped together based on specific & minimum requirements, and where financing is distributed per service-group. 👐 All experts reiterated a key aspect when considering reform: always have in mind the patient perspective. We'll delve deep into how these commercial interests, with their vast resources and political sway, can often overshadow public health priorities, creating an alarming power imbalance. 🌍 The EDiHTA Horizon Europe (project) has been presented and discussed at prominent conferences across #Europe in recent weeks. 📢 Members of the #EDiHTA project presented the ambitions of the project and engaged with interested #stakeholders at the following conferences: 1. The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (#HIMSS24Europe) conference in Rome, Italy. 🌐 At the #HIMSS conference, the #EDiHTA project team highlighted their mission to streamline and enhance #HTA processes through #digitalinnovation. 👏 Particularly, we extend our gratitude to Prof. Americo Cicchetti and Marco Marchetti for offering a comprehensive insight into the #HTA landscape in #Europe.  2.
