PCR Plastic and Circularity @ Oceanworks

I've been leading business development and partnerships at Oceanworks® for over 6 years now. Here's the thing that initially drew me to the company: Making a business case for reducing plastic pollution. While philanthropic and charitable causes are enormously helpful, they just aren't scalable to the size we need to solve the plastic crisis, nor do they do anything to change the processes or materials that corporations use (or how they use them). So at Oceanworks we set out to do it differently. At OW, we are finding the intersection between waste, cleanups, and material implementations in a way that makes business sense. It matters because sustainable practices—like plastic recycling/reuse—are a lot easier for corporations to adopt when it aligns commercially. Vanessa Coleman said it well: "At the end of the day, if we can create a market for this waste, then the waste will no longer be in the environment." It was this mindset that made me so excited about Oceanworks 6 years ago, and it's the same mindset that continues to inspire me today.

Persistence, reliable service and ongoing adoption to the market conditions is the secret formula for success in the circular plastics market - the one that you proved, Patrick, to work. Needless to say, the business growth in our emerging space requires certainly more sweat and creativity compared to the established commoditiy markets, however the good cause behind it and its brighter future are sufficient motivators for that.
