28*2…CELEBRATING AND RE-DISCOVERING Episode #2 So here we are in Singapore where, 28 years ago, when I was 28 my son Lucas was born, We found the doctor that delivered him! She is above 70, still working and a great testimony to the hard working spirit of that city. 28 years ago there were 3.5M people and GDP per capita was similar to Canada. 1- POPULATION Today, despite a very low birth rate similar to Japan or Canada, is close to 6M… cosmopolitan, diverse, dynamic. Secret of a well managed and ambitious immigration policy. Attracting talents in all kind of jobs to nurture growth and innovation. And plenty of help everywhere, 2- HOUSING ISSUES? Nope… 77% of the population lives in social housing, that they own (not rent)… allowing them to build wealth regardless of salary level… you rent to own pretty much. 3- LONG-TERM PLANNING and thinking brought incredible wealth to this city over the last 30 years. Good post Patrick I recall the words of General Clausewitz from his book "On War": Planning is the realization of strategy, and tactics is a battle, which can be a separate part of a larger goal. Japan has achieved a lot because of the ability to look consistently and far-sightedly and, most importantly, to act. Perhaps in business, too, those who are ready to fight for what will be in 25 years will be able to achieve a lot?
