Reverse the Red is a global movement to ensure the survival of wild species! Here at Penguins International we are celebrating global cooperation and partnerships between penguin conservation organizations taking action for endangered penguin species. Reverse the Red is launching a virtual World Species Congress on May 15, 2024 to highlight species pledges through the Global Biodiversity Framework. The goal is to reverse declines and recover species populations in which we know include the endangered African Penguins, Galapagos Penguins, Erect-Crested Penguins, Northern Rockhopper Penguins, and Yellow-Eyed Penguins. Saving animals from extinction is a global effort and together we can reverse their decline. 2️⃣ salamander species in Costa Rica—La Estrella Salamander & Richard's Salamander—are recovering thanks to conservation actions put into motion decades ago by the government! Last year's headline from the 2nd Global Amphibian Assessment seemed a bit doom and gloom...especially for salamanders, with two out of every five species threatened with extinction. Thankfully, the news isn’t all bad. These two Costa Rican species are among 63 amphibians found to have improved in IUCN Red List status since 1980 as the direct result of conservation action. https://lnkd.in/gzsdergP

VERY alarming news today, out of the first-ever State of the World’s Migratory Species report, launched by the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals, on the rate of human-induced extinction. Not really surprising given our unhindered rate of destroying the earth but very surprising that humanity cannot seem to do what it takes to turn this around, even it means at our own peril. The world needs to act and fast to save countless species from becoming extinct.

🚨🦞 Beware of Invasive Species! 🚨🌿 Did you know that invasive species in our oceans are posing a serious threat to native marine ecosystems? 🌊🌿 These invaders, introduced through human activities like shipping and aquaculture, can disrupt delicate ecological balances and displace native species. 🦀🌱 Invasive species, such as lionfish and green crabs, can outcompete native marine life for resources and space, leading to a decline in biodiversity and even the loss of critical habitats like seagrass meadows and coral reefs. 🦐🏝️ Invasive species are a significant concern for marine ecosystems worldwide, and efforts are made to monitor and manage their spread to mitigate their impacts. Conservation and management strategies focus on early detection, prevention, and control to protect native biodiversity and ecosystem functions. The latest State of the World’s Migratory Species report prepared by UNEP-WCMC for @BonnConvention highlights how human activities have led to the decline of many migratory species and shares key recommendations to alleviate this.

With populations worldwide having declined by 23% in 14 years, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has categorised the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) as "potentially endangered" on their red list. This is level 2 out of 7 on the scale. The states in #OurRhine river basin are continuously working on the reintroduction of this unique species which is representative of many other species. https://lnkd.in/e6yxCftJ
