In 2022-23 preschool participation grew 7 percent year over year, with percentages of enrolled 3 and 4-year-olds at an all-time high. Research shows that students in a high quality preschool program are better prepared once they go to Kindergarten. 📚 http://2.sas.com/6045jd6Q3

Calling all preschool and kindergarten teachers, administrators, instructional coordinators, instructional coaches and parents of kids ages 3-6 ~ Establishing a foundation for literacy in our youngest learners is so important for their future success! Things such as oral language, mark making, compositional thinking, phonological awareness and writing identity set the stage for them to find success in reading and writing not only now, but into the future. We are developing a course that shares best practice on these items as well as classroom application. It will be for preschool and kindergarten teachers. Sign up at the following link to get notified that the course is available to purchase: https://lnkd.in/g83CPGYT You can expect to get email notification on June 12. You are NOT committing to anything by signing up on the link above. It's just to get notified of the course release. This course is pre-recorded so you can listen to it whenever you want and where ever you want (ie on the couch in your pajamas!)

In this opinion published in The Post and Courier, Jody Stallings, an award-winning teacher since 1992 and director of the Charleston Teacher Alliance, emphasizes the role of parents, pointing out that the achievement gap in schools is less about early versus late reading skills and more about the level of parental involvement and support from the outset. The ROR model encourages early parental involvement and support for children's reading in SC (and beyond). https://lnkd.in/dpz4ScjY

Yes, it’s true that Kindergarten has transformed into First Grade. Yes, children will need to learn academics, listen and sit still. But that certainly doesn’t mean that these lessons should be straight-jacketed onto them in the toddler and preschool years. In fact, the funneling down of structured learning is all the more reason to let children play while they can. We must fiercely protect this precious, ever shrinking window of time for our children. Play is enough. Play is enough. Play is enough. This should be our educational mantra for the first 5 years. Don't let your preschoolers forget how to play —> https://lnkd.in/dij7NTjz

DYK: Students who attended full-day preschool performed significantly better than students in half-day preschool in reading and math by the end of 3rd grade, showed better social-emotional development, and were nearly 3 times less likely to repeat a grade during that time. This is significant. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/dyfUdCrZ
