How you benefit from broadening your “experience CV” Let’s start with the basics: Experiences > things: (£/happy) Research from Dr Elizabeth Dunn helps us understand why it’s more beneficial (from a happiness perspective) to spend on experiences rather than things. One of the reasons is the storytelling that’s connected with experiences 📚 and how much of the “happiness” from experiences can come from the anticipation (eg of a pre-booked holiday ✈️ Moreover, experiences rather than things help us connect with others through “storytelling”👫 As Morgan Housel brilliantly explains: “no-one is as impressed with your possessions as much as you are”! Experiences literally create opportunities for us to create meaningful connections with those with whom we share the experience and with those with whom we share the stories➿ Among the fascinating research shared Dr Elizabeth shares research asking people if they would prefer to stay in a beach hotel or ice-hotel: The beach 🏝️ hotel in the research wasn’t as glamorous as this one point down 👇 Most people chose the ice-hotel, despite it offering an almost guaranteed less comfortable experience 😵💫🥶 (the temps are -5) The ice hotel experience adds to your experience CV which are more interesting stories 🙌 So… start daydreaming today: What would you love to do to broaden your experience CV? What would you need? What would it cost? That’s where financial planning comes in… Life by design (credit for “Life by design” to Christian Mather who is well worth a follow 👀. Great content from a financial planner clearly doing it right 🙌) #goalsetting #financialfreedom #financialindependence
