Been thinking about it for a while and it occurs to me that whilst there to entertain us, Jeremy Clarkson has single handedly done more for the UK farming industry than 30 odd years of Countryfile. Sorry John Craven! I'm admittedly a maritime townie far more than a country gent, but i've always had an affinity for matters relating to the countryside and the natural world. But, there are many that just don't have that affinity with the farming economy and it is exactly for this reason that I feel Clarkson's Farm has done a great service to the industry. ๐๐ฎ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ฎ๐จ 1๏ธโฃ Bureaucracy and red tape kills innovation in farming and all business 2๏ธโฃ Farmers have had to be entrepreneurial to make ends meet. Clarkson shows this well. Someone's suggestion that he did not need to make money as he was a TV personality should hang their head with shame 3๏ธโฃ Farmers like all business need to make profits to survive 4๏ธโฃ I can't think of a business that can throw as many curve balls at you as farming 5๏ธโฃ We should always try to buy locally produced food 6๏ธโฃ I'm not an expert but supermarkets would seem to be unhelpful at best to the farmer's plight. Perhaps Farmer's markets are the way forward? Thinking less packaging and waste generally as well 7๏ธโฃ Whitehall and city folk cannot really begin to understand the farming economy unless they truly live it 8๏ธโฃ Seems that Farming is as regulated as Banking or Medical but without the ability to make a decent return as Banking or Medical. How can this be right? 9๏ธโฃ Without food, humanity dies out. Then is farming the single most important industry? ๐ Business is business, there is no reason why you can't turn your hand to other business activities if you want to. Thoughts?
I haven't actually seen this but will check it out Paul French
Swop the word 'farming' for 'engineering' and the majority of your points still hold true.
Not seen the show, but does he grow veg and grains or is it all just farming animals?
Maybe those formulating policies impacting agriculture & farming should spend a little time on Clarksonโs farm? ๐ค
The contempt held for farmers and other small business worldwide from government is palpable and this series demonstrates it in full detail.
Itโs on my list to watch but I havenโt seen it yet
Iโve not watched it yet but hear itโs very good.
