College move-ins for my two oldest reminded me just how fundamental our school years are to our personal and professional growth. I am so grateful for my time at Wake Forest University—the community of friends, the grit required to navigate the coursework and a few intramural sports championships along the way.😉 It’s where I met my wife and landed in the #accounting program, which set the course for my future. I’m lucky to still have one child at home for a little while longer! Wishing all the students a successful #school year—filled with lots of learning, community and some fun too. Here’s a throwback!

Moved our twins to Tallahassee a couple weeks ago. Same day, different housing!! My son wants to work at PwC like his dad did! Daughter wants to be a nuerosurgeon! We’ve got a ways to go. Hoping we taught them well to navigate their new “world”! Thanks for sharing

It seems like yesterday when you were a student, and our graduate accounting program was just getting started. Reflecting on those early years, we all took pride in building grit in our students. Accounting was just the tool we used to develop the skills of grit and resilience. It is great to see how these skills have played a role in the success of you and all our graduates.

Paul, first of all, I agree with everything you said. Congrats on getting two "across the goal line." (I know, only the first of many goal lines!) Best wishes on the last one. Many best wishes to all the "freshmen again" getting to "start over." Life begins / begins anew. Such an exciting time. Make wise decisions or at least mistakes that don't "cost" you too much. Learn from mistakes. I like to learn from the mistakes of others--hopefully make a few less myself. All of that is important. But those of us a few years down the road need to discuss the role of K-12 and that of post-secondary. I cannot believe something called "remedial courses" is a part of the college landscape. It is time to weed out those unfit for college academically and point them to either the trades or other avenues. This also means "upping" our game in K-12. We must teach everything at a higher level. Primary and secondary have roles. We should make use of them. (Sorry, /soapbox.)
