The "smartphone first" strategy revolutionized many businesses 15 years ago, just as we're entering the "AI first" era. Companies like Uber, Grab, and Airbnb thrived by prioritizing mobile technology. This past year I decided to take Tapped Ai full time. A platform for musicians to create a world tour all from their iPhone. Down below, I posted a video that changed the trajectory of our company forever. My co founder 🖋 Johannes Naylor and I had just moved to Austin, TX for Antler's co-hort program. Previously, him and I were operating Tapped from two separate sides of the world. Before we took it full-time I was working on Tapped as a side project in Los Angeles. He on the other hand, was working all the way from Barcelona, Spain. After finally meeting in Austin, TX for the program we decided it would be a good idea to go all the way to NYC for NY Tech Week. Where we were going to speak about the effects of Ai and showcase our startup to investors. This event was hosted by The AI Furnace 🧨🔥 alongside Angela Mascarenas and her great team. Little did we know, that there would be over 300+ investors and founders there. We ended up scratching our presentation, and pitch deck the night before and freestyled the whole thing instead. Johannes and I agreed we wanted this to be authentic, and it had to come straight from the heart. This was our first time working in person in a year and a half. The presentation ended up doing so well, that we ended up getting a -reality tv show offer from The Blox -an offer to have a documentary made about our startup from one of the best directors in NYC (Cameron Kit) - dozens of angel investors interested in negotiation for our angel investment round of $150,000. This year was all about finding the right market, and appealing to our customers. As you can see in the video, at the time we were focusing on creating tools for artists to operate their own labels. However, with this pivot we realized there was a greater problem to focus on. That was the lack of platforms in the booking space that can efficiently connect event organizers/venues and musicians. Since we made this pivot, our focus has made much more sense to new users and prospective investors. Alongside, learning one of the hugest lessons of all: "That you can't be married to an idea, and always have to be open to quick change when running a startup." The '90s #browserwars offers a striking parallel to today's #AI chatbot competition. Back then, Microsoft and Netscape's rivalry was defined by rapid innovations. Fast forward, and we're witnessing a similar scenario with tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Apple, alongside #startups, all racing to dominate the #ai chatbot space. The recent launch of Google's #Gemini chatbot, anticipated updates from Microsoft with OpenAI's #GPT-5, and Apple's AI plans signal a consolidation similar to streaming. Leads to a critical question: How many #AI assistants do we actually need? Just as it's tough to justify paying for a half dozen different streaming video services, it's hard to envision a world where I need multiple chatbots. I'm not referring to #enterprise use but purely as a #consumer. Thoughts?
