Why is access to gender affirming products ( binders, tucking underwear etc) so important? Here's a few of the many reasons: ✨ Better mental health: By providing a means for individuals to express their gender identity authentically, gender affirming products contribute to improved wellbeing, reducing anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. ✨ Reduces gender dysphoria: Access to gender affirming products can alleviate the distress and discomfort associated with gender dysphoria by allowing people to outwardly express their true gender identity. ✨ Affirms individual identity and expression: These products validate an individual's sense of self and reinforce their identity, allowing them to express themselves authentically and comfortably. ✨ Enhance quality of life: Having access to products that match one's gender identity improves overall quality of life by enabling people to fully engage in society without fear of discrimination or judgment based on their appearance.

Why are we at Bloom North trying to engage more men in the pursuit of gender equity? Because we are concerned about the gender disparities that currently exist. The stark reality that it will take 132 years to achieve full gender parity in the workplace, if the current pace of change continues (Source: The Gender Equity Collective) Let that just sit with you for a moment… Do you have daughters? Sisters? Close female friends? Granddaughters? How does it feel to know they don’t have the same opportunities as you, and their own children might not either? These statistics aren't just numbers; they represent the future that the important people around us will inherit. Did you know that, on average, women retire with five times less pension than men? Or that the average woman has earned 390k less than an equivalent man by the age of 65? (Source: Lead5050) These imbalances arent just unfair, but they affect the well-being and livelihoods of our loved ones. They must not be ignored. Just imagine how it would feel to be part of the solution that contributes to a better life for your family? Not only that, but to create a life where we alleviate the pressure that men feel too? Men should be able to explore a wider range of career options and personal interests than they do currently, and elevating women is part of giving us that. It's time for men to join the conversation and actively work towards building an equitable future. This is why our male allies event is happening for Bloom North and why we want to see as many faces there as possible. "When we see a lack of representation it is often assumed a lack of talent is the problem. That is very rarely the case.." Particularly in a (arguably the) global sport like football, even at elite level. Other sectors like business, government, higher education: take note. The talent is there. You aren't finding it and promoting it. Leave it too long and we'll make our own choices to go elsewhere. The story is not over by any means, but this shows what can happen with commitment from within and without. Althought this article is discussing Golf in England, this is the birthplace of golf. They are asking some really critical questions about equity as it relates to the golf course. It's refreshing to hear England Golf chief executive Jeremy Tomlinson acknowledging that "Ladies Days' arent necessarily the most inclusive. "Focusing on equality of access, and looking at working women who may not be able to play on a traditional ‘Ladies Day’ during the week before finding weekend golf restricted in a way it may not be for a man. Tomlinson continued: “Everybody goes out and earns a living. So to have a situation where you have a membership where people are paying the same amount, but there is a differentiation between the rights of certain elements of your membership, I think is antiquated. FINALLY...we agree. It is antiquated. I really hope golf clubs in the US and all over will start really looking at their business model, who they are targeting for membership and quite simply, how they are running their business. “It is something that every golf club...should be looking at themselves – again looking in the mirror – and asking ‘is there an equality of access? If somebody is paying the same amount to be a member of my club, they are a member of the golf club..so they should be able to utilise it in the same way – and certainly with regards to gaining access to tee times and playing rights." Once there is equity as it relates to tee times and playing rights, that will signficantly change the golf club culture in a positive direction. It's no longer a boys club, or won't be for much longer. Move over boys, women love golf too and we have entered the conversation.

WHAT MEN CAN DO TO PARTNER FOR CHANGE: - Actively mentor and promote women to leadership positions. - Share best practices and your commitment to diversity and gender balance. - Identify unconscious or direct biases and address them with other men. - Call upon women, including women of color, in discussions to create an environment that encourages collaboration. - Give women credit for their work, especially up the leadership chain, and actively listen and implement their recommendations. - Recruit women to lead high-profile projects. - Advocate for women within your company and your networks. There are big ambitions brewing at Go Girl corp on bringing the Go Girl program to bigger and better heights (I’m talking 2,000 school girls, if not 3,000 school girls in the state of Victoria) - along with some not-so-secret aspirations of my own to take Go Girl nationally. (The legalities and formalities!) 2023’s foray into the Aus F1 Grand Prix, exhibiting in the Tech Hub alongside some amazing names, was an eye opener. Having people from all over the world come by and ask if there was a Go Girl in their state - if not halfway across the world. If you are a decision maker in your organisation, if you’re looking at the pipeline of talent coming in and you want more representation and diversity of thought, innovative approaches, and attracting the best of the best — starting with university students is good, but it means you are targeting the same pool that every other organisation out there is targeting. Competition and the demand for the best is fierce when there is short supply. Start younger.
