The only folks worse at succession planning than Logan Roy may be partners at VC firms. The number of #VentureCapital firms has tripled over the last 15 years. While this speaks to the entrepreneurial nature of many VCs, it’s also a sign that many partners failed to groom successors and retain talent. When up-and-coming talent are not given the right opportunities within their own firms, don't be surprised when they find another path to reach the level of responsibility and impact they crave and feel ready for. At Kyber Knight Capital, Linus Liang and I understand that venture is an energy business. While it’s not the case for everyone, in many cases partners lose that hunger and hustle when they reach a certain level of wealth. Board meetings are the most "expensive" meetings you have - from the hourly rate of the people sitting around the table, to the hours or even days your leadership team spends on putting together the materials.
