Lead Counsel (Develpment & International) at Field Energy | Renewable Energy | Sustainability | Climate Tech | "Aatmay Clause" Drafting Team and The Chancery Lane Project Senior Content Editor | Aspiring Polyglot. ⚡🌿🌍
On Wednesday 5th June 2024, the Field Legal Team (Elspeth Vincent, Jonathan Culley, Lydia Scambler and myself) made its maiden visit to Crafty Fest. With quintessential festival vibes, a barbershop quartet, colourful umbrellas and beanbags, it was a great opportunity to attend some super insightful sessions and network with so many fellow in-house lawyers. The moment of the day belonged to Lee Castleton (a former sub-postmaster) whose inspiring, emotional, poignant and thought provoking interview was incredibly impactful and left a real mark on all of us. Key learnings from the sessions we attended: 1. Value of agility, versatility and resilience in a business' legal function and making value, pragmatic and ethical judgements. 2. Using a matrix to show in a simple 2x2 grid (value vs energy drain) where the work goes in your priority list - putting low value energy drainers into a "not to do" list vs putting "golden ticket" items in the "must do quickly list" and "eating your frog" (i.e. getting difficult tasks that improve life out of the way). 3. What a legal team's value looks like - being deal enablers (rather than deal prevention officers) and being a commercial partner. 4. Doing things ethically right 5. Finding joy in overcoming challenges and being enablers/conduits for growth 6. How do we wish our epitaph to read? Great catching up with Matthew Gingell and chatting about The Chancery Lane Project, #renewables, #energystorage and #sustainability in general. Onto Crafty Fest 2025!

Bates V Post office. Following a recent viewing of the Bates v Post Office case, I couldn't help but reflect on yet another instance of corporate fraud and deceit, with profit taking precedence over transparency and accountability. The narrative of such cases is often so intricately woven that it could easily be mistaken for a compelling novel. It prompts contemplation on when global organizations will recognize the imperative of accountability within their operations. Instances such as the PPI mis-selling scandal, PCP controversies, and Diesel Emissions issues highlight an ongoing trend where the pursuit of profit seems to overshadow ethical considerations. The question of when this cycle will come to an end remains at the forefront of our concerns. I look forward to a time when global organizations acknowledge the importance of accountability, realizing that at some point, individuals or groups should be held responsible for their actions.

Price's Law: What is it? 📝 It's a statistical principle that states that around 50% of a group's output is generated by the square root of the number of people contributing to it. Why it matters? ...things get worse 🔍 as you grow bigger! I doubted this notion and as I continue to dig into it, I find that it's real - across any industry! What do you think? DM me - I'd love to chat with you about this phenomenon. My recommendation: Focus on creating standard work and nurturing a culture of continuous improvement where EVERYONE in your organization is looking for ways to increase productivity! #productivity #operationalexcellence
