UHPC is more expensive than normal concrete but when you consider the effects over the lifetime of a bridge, the cost becomes competitive. See how the Clare County Road Commission sought to use UHPC for a higher performance with lower cost at https://bit.ly/3GgLsXM

No More RAAC and Ruin? The Department for Education (DfE) announced yesterday that it will remove Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) from all affected schools in England. The Department also published a "final list" of 234 RAAC-affected schools... this has significant consequences for the DfE's schools rebuilding programme. #RAAC #schools #schoolconstruction #education

Freelance Communications & Change Consultant I Interim Global Communications Director I C-Suite Advisor l Independent Trustee
It's one of the very first things you tell a client or an exec you're working with. Check the mic is off or the camera has stopped rolling before you relax and make off the cuff remarks. This is even more relevant if you're in the middle of a whopping massive crisis like the one Gillian Keegan finds herself in the middle of. That it keeps happening with our UK ministers tells me that they are either not listening to their comms advisors, or they are too arrogant and think they know better. Either way, this is such a basic communications fail. It really should not be this difficult for our leaders and those in the public eye to do better than this. #communicationsbasics
Gillian Keegan claimed to be doing a “f***ing good job” as education secretary as she was caught protesting on camera over tough questions about school concrete. She had been challenged over why ministers have only in recent days ordered schools to close despite warnings dating back years over the dangers of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC). After the interview, with the microphone and camera still on, Keegan asked: “Does anyone ever say ‘you know what, you’ve done a f***ing good job because everyone else has done nothing? No signs of that, no?
Gillian Keegan says she’s done a ‘good job’ in F-word gaffe

Ian Abley's Presentation to Norfolk and Suffolk IFE Branch on 8 February Really looking forward to hearing an undoubted expert give an unbiased assessment of where we are with the 'Class O Conundrum'. 8th February 2024 3.30pm This is a double session starting at the slightly earlier time of 3.30pm, and ending 5.30 pm. This seminar has been approved for 2 hours IFE CPD Points ** the talk will start promptly at 3.30pm. Please join a minute or two early if you can** Summary: Class 0 was said to be the highest national performance classification for construction materials and products, such as in external walls, until the fatal fire of Grenfell Tower on 14 June 2017. Despite a warning about the potential combustibility of Class 0 “cladding” products from the Select Committee to the Ministry publishing statutory guidance after Garnock Court fire on 11 June 1999. Class 0 was defined in the statutory guidance of Approved Document Part B and not in any British Standard. When Grenfell Tower Inquiry finally reports by June 2024 it will be seven years since 72 deaths. That was an unnecessary and high price for British society to discover that Class 0 could in fact be achieved by composite products with highly combustible cores. This webinar explains the Class 0 Conundrum using the evidence in a continuing process of disclosure, which led to Inquiry publication in 2022 of the Research on the Approved Document And Revision (RADAR) project, undertaken with construction industry partners in 2000.
