Last night was the Astra Program Showcase, where three teams presented their 2024 white papers. Our white paper, titled 'Strengthening Australia's Critical Space Infrastructure: Strategies for growth and resilience.', directed 8 recommendations to key industry bodies for their consideration, including Australian Space Agency, Australian Space Diversity Alliance, Australian Centre for Space Governance, iLAuNCH Trailblazer, Defence Australia, and the Australian Government. A good way to celebrate Europe Day in London, where we have come with our CEO, Jose Vicente de los Mozos, to collect the Golden Award from the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the UK, is to review the notes of the meeting we held at our Indra headquarters the day before with the European Space Agency - ESA Director General, Josef Aschbacher, and his extraordinary team (Simona Richard, Professor Carole Mundell, Apostolia Karamali), and a prominent representation of the Spanish Space Agency (Cecilia Hernandez, Ana Marín, Isabel Pérez Grande). Space, both from a civilian point of view and because of its relevance as a security and defense domain, can be a transcendental element to strengthen the bond between the European Union and the United Kingdom, and project it beyond the ocean, towards our North Atlantic allies. The importance of implicating industry into the critical conversation about critical technologies for European autonomy and non-dependency is clear for me. As builders of space systems they can offer a clear picture of the needs of our sector. That's why it is worth to read the takeaways of industry in this matter. But I would like to highlight two points which I find rather interesting in my view: -We have forums within Europe that are perfect to support this discussion, like the Component Technology Board (CTB) from the ESCC, which is already a working body that can perform this criticality identification easily. -Member states should also commit specific budgets to address the dependence reduction (a national level or through ESA),not letting the EU as the only actor on the matter.

Brian explained how BlackSky accelerated access to sovereign space capability with our most recent contract with the government of #Indonesia: “This becomes really affordable and fast, allowing them to build capacity with their military and get immediate space-based intelligence capability." The European Commission has recently selected #EMISSARY under the “Initial operational capacity for Space situational awareness C2 and sensors” call, reinforcing our commitment to advancing collective security in space as part of the @European Defence Fund (EDF) programme. Building on the EDIDP programme (European Defence Industrial Development Programme), where #ArianeGroup, was the coordinator of SAURON (identification and characterisation sensors), and Leonardo, led INTEGRAL (Command and Control Centre), we continue to drive innovation in defense technology. Led by Leonardo and a budget of €100 million, EMISSARY unites 47 partners from 13 countries. Our mission is to design, test, and qualify an interoperable command and control center, fully integrated with European sensor networks, to ensure Europe’s strategic autonomy.
