Today, some of our associates joined the Food Bank of Delaware to help feed more than 2,000 of our neighbors throughout the First State at a mass drive-thru food distribution event at Dover Motor Speedway. Perdue donated 14,000 pounds of no-antibiotics-ever chicken to support the effort and associates from our Milford, Delaware plant and Perdue Transportation Inc. lent a helping hand. We’re proud to partner with the Food Bank of Delaware as part of our Delivering Hope To Our Neighbors® outreach to improve quality of life and build strong communities.

Agreed! Food insecurity is a real problem that affects people all over the state. Unfortunately, the answer can't simply be "visit a food bank near you". We need to talk about why there are food deserts all over our state. We need to talk about why black and brown families suffer disproportionately from food insecurity. We need to talk about why (in many cases) college students experience food insecurity at levels twice as high as the general population. Then, after we've talked about it, we need to do something about it. Something real and substantive. What we need is justice. Food justice for all!
As we get closer to the holidays, DHEC realizes that food insecurity is a real issue for many families in our state. With the help of Clemson University, we have developed a food bank resource that shows food bank locations throughout the state where food can be received and donated. Every year, winter coats, gloves, hats and more decorate our warming trees at our Monon/Francesville plants. Started by our very own plant clerk Kim Payne nearly a decade ago, we partner with fellow members of our local communities such as churches, schools and service organizations to help keep families safe and warm during the cold winter months. Thank you to each individual that was able to donate! Here are just a few of the incredible businesses that generously donated to supply our community with winter clothing. Food insecurity is a complex issue impacting more than 33 million people in the United States, including 9.3 million children. As part of our Recipe for Change, we’re committed to fighting food insecurity at a local level, so all our neighbors can thrive. Each year our stores donate millions of pounds of food to local organizations that are on the front lines in the fight against hunger. In 2022, we donated more than 80 million pounds of food from our stores, distribution centers, and manufacturing plants to Feeding America partners—the equivalent of enabling more than 65 million meals. Nourishing Neighbors, a charitable program of Albertsons Companies Foundation, raised over $40 million in 2022. These funds enabled the donation of more than 188 million meals for those living in our communities as well as people in need in Ukraine. Community impact? The primary impact of this firms business model increases homelessness (currently at 10K+ homeless people on any given night) by gentrifying neighborhoods and forcing people who make less money out. "Global day for people and planet" yet the firm musters up 2 small bins of mostly dog and cat food...this doesn't even align. How about taking on projects that actually help to reduce the number of homeless people in the city instead of ones that are for the affluent population and for corporations to profit from. I hope other architecture studios in Toronto can learn from these fake displays of positive community impact. Many studios like this promote themselves as doing good but really at a foundational socio-economic level, they drive some of the biggest problems in the city. #thinkcritically #communityimpact #torontohomeless
Last week we supported Patcraft's Global Day for People and Planet initiative by filling two bins in our Annex with donations for several SPCA locations throughout the city. Great work team! #communityimpact
