🌳 As part of our sustainability drive, Cedar planted our own budding forest in the breathtaking Brecon Beacons in 2023. As the year is coming to a close, we’ve been delighted to hear that all 233 native saplings are still thriving, due to being expertly cared for by the 9Trees CIC team.   This green initiative – led at Cedar by our Green Team – is helping to offset the carbon impact of our business. Once the trees grow bigger, they’ll also support the biodiversity of the area, which includes all manner of birds, insects and mammals.   We are also part-funding a research project using biodegradable tree guards to help more baby trees survive infancy without being eaten by animals – so that’s another 1,500 trees that are thriving without the need for plastic.   ‘The Cedar Woodland is hands down our favourite part of our agency’s sustainability strategy,’ says Chief Strategist Kim Willis. ‘It’s not the whole answer – our plans to reduce digital emissions and increase carbon-neutral content production are also super important.   ‘But with woodland cover in the UK still chronically low, we’re very proud to support 9trees in this tangible project to grow the UK’s tree cover. Growing up my playground was becoming a wasteland 🤢 ☠ Often people ask me why I decided to specialise in Sustainability and I always say the same thing... > As a child, I spent a lot of time by the sea, especially in places like the Strait of Bonifacio and Mazara Del Vallo. Every year I went back and it seemed like there was always more #trash in the water and on the beaches. Seeing these beautiful spots degrading being filled with trash triggered me and it started to make me think about our role and impact on our planet. > Next to this I had the luck of growing up in a household where polystyrene, recycling and sustainability were central topics. I’m proud to say that all this talk has become an actual company Ecoplastic, founded by my father, Luigi Di Troia. The goal? Bending the pollution curve while moving to a regenerative economy. > Then came my experience in Amsterdam - Here I witnessed firsthand how governmental policies can increase #awareness and “nudge” citizens’ attitude towards sustainable behaviours. Here's what we've been working on and are aiming for next: Caring for People: ✨ Trained our staff as mental health advocates to foster a supportive workplace environment. 🍎 Fruit deliveries every week, promoting healthy eating habits among our team. 🤝 Our team contributed 88 hours of volunteer time to give back to our community. 💼 Over 60% of our total spend was directed towards suppliers local to our offices, supporting local businesses and economies. Caring for the Planet: 🔌 We've improved our sustainability by installing an EV charger, reducing carbon emissions. 🖥️ Launched websites with over 50% greener pages than standard sites, minimising our digital carbon footprint. ♻️ Reduced energy and water use, along with cutting down general waste. 🌳 Proudly funded the planting of 2460 trees, nurturing the planet's green lungs. 🌍 Together, we've avoided a staggering 129.9 tonnes of CO2 emissions via Ecologi. To continue moving forward we are focusing on these as our next steps: 🔄 Committing to reducing waste consumption by 10% and energy use by 5% in 2024. ☕ Switching to a bean-to-cup coffee machine to eliminate disposable pods, reducing single-use waste.
