I’m a firm believer in exercise helping to both clear your head, and get mentally prepared for big tasks…such as prepping to provide expert witness testimony on the eve of trial. As an avid runner, currently recovering from injury, I have found with indoor biking (and Peloton Interactive), I can multi task like this at home! I have not been able to multi task like this with outdoor running or mountain biking…yet. Who’s with me in this mindset? Exercise for the win. #expertwitness #forensicengineering #idratherberunning

Sometimes we need that big scary outcome goal in front of us to motivate us to actually take action. I had no idea how I'd complete an IRONMAN....I didn't own a bike (and couldn't afford one), could hardly swim 50m and hadn't run more than a half marathon before. It enabled my brain to begin asking HOW. How will I swim for 3800m straight. How will I learn to run a marathon after biking for 180km. How will I know what to eat, when to eat, how much to drink? It forces you to look for solutions and to get creative. I've been slow writing more content the last 2 weeks as I have been focused on getting back into running this month after 2 years of injuries, and all I have to say is: don't let achilles problems keep you from doing what you love for 2 years when the solution is as simple as asking a professional to find you the right inserts. The same with your business. Still have an article or two on the docket before the season gets crazy again. (34 miles in the last 7 days, moving from a 20-30 mile weekly average through March, after not passing 10 miles of running in a week for over a year until February). #racedirectors #marathons #halfmarathons #running

This past weekend I completed my 7th triathlon. I didn't break any records, but crossing the finish line holding hands with my 7 year old son who ran with me for the last quarter mile made me feel like a champion 🏆 .  Transitioning between three activities in one race - typically swim, bike and run - can serve as a metaphor for life.  Here’s some of what I learned through the transition points in triathlons that can be applied to any of life’s many transitions.  1) Get quiet.  Tune out the noise around you.  There will always be someone faster than you, with what looks like more expensive gear or a fancier title.  Try to let go of what others are doing and run your own race.  2) No transition is ever the same.  Sometimes, they feel seamless, sometimes they feel oppressively long due to factors that may be out of your control, like the weather, or your placement in the transition area.  Focus on what you can control and let go of the rest. 3) Trust the process. Just like you can’t wear a wetsuit on the bike ride, you can’t meaningfully transition to one stage in life without shedding some of what helped you be successful in the last one.  It won’t always feel linear, but trusting the process will help you move in the right direction.    4) Go slow to go fast:   I’ve seen people rush through transitions only to attempt to exit the transition area the wrong way, or drop their chain because they were in the wrong gear.  Take a breath and get your bearings.  The extra time you spend in the transition phase may help you be that much faster later on. Sometimes it's during the transitions in life that we learn the most about ourselves and our capacity for change and growth. --- 🏊♀️ 🚵♂️ 🏃♀️ Twenty years ago I completed my first triathlon and nine years ago I completed what I thought might be my last one. 🌟🏅 I DID IT! 🏅🌟 On June 2nd, I completed my first Olympic triathlon, and WOW, what an incredible journey it has been! 🚴♀️🏊♀️🏃♀️ As I crossed the finish line, I couldn't help but think about how this experience parallels my journey in the voice-over world. 🎙️✨ 🏊♀️ SWIM: Just like diving into the open water, starting in voice-over was a plunge into the unknown. The initial splash can be overwhelming, but with every stroke (or spoken word), you find your rhythm and push through the waves of doubt. 🚴♀️ BIKE: The cycling leg reminded me of the hours spent honing my craft in the studio. It's about endurance, maintaining pace, and navigating the ups and downs. There are hills that seem insurmountable, but the thrill of coasting on the other side makes it all worth it. 🏃♀️ RUN: The final stretch is where mental grit truly shines. Just like in voice-over, it’s about perseverance and believing in your voice. Every step forward is a testament to the hard work and dedication poured into the journey. Crossing the finish line wasn’t just about completing a race. It was a reminder that with passion and persistence, we can achieve our dreams, whether on the racecourse or behind the mic. 🎤💪 This year has been tough and so many times I have just wanted to give up in my training and voice over journey, but you just have to keep showing up putting one foot in front of the other and before you know it, you are at the finish line! Among many things that happened in 2023, I am particularly happy with the fact that I ran 2750 kilometers in total (with different intensities) and completed 2 half marathons. That took me: - 243 out of 365 days running (66%) - 267 hours running in total - 11.3 kilometers on average every day - 255,000 kcal burned in total This year I am intending to increase the volume by at least 10%, i.e. having more than 3000 kilometers in total.
