Airworthiness and Aviation Safety, Senior Consultant at Baines Simmons.

It is with an immense sense of gratitude and reflection that I am pleased to share that I have recently completed 15 years of service with Baines Simmons. Commencing my journey with Baines Simmons in my late 30s and now approaching my mid-50s, this professional trajectory has been a truly enriching experience. Throughout my tenure, I have had the privilege of collaborating with many inspirational colleagues, all united in their dedication to enhancing aviation safety. Having been promoted to the position of Senior Consultant, because Baines Simmons saw something in me that I didn't, I can’t believe I find myself managing the UK MOD Military Aviation Authority STEP Program. This initiative aims to facilitate the establishment of an effective Aviation Safety Management System, elevating competence and awareness of Air Safety across all branches of UK military aviation. I also struggle to comprehend that I now consult at national aviation authority and boardroom levels, contributing to the enhancement of aviation safety. The invitation to present awards at esteemed events has also been an unexpected honour. I share these reflections because, like many others, I have impostor syndrome—an ever-present fear that others will discover that I am less competent than I appear to be. Nevertheless, I have learned to embrace this feeling as a catalyst for continuous learning and professional development. It serves as a reminder to approach each client engagement with humility, recognizing that there is always more to learn. If you, too, grapple with similar sentiments of self-doubt, please know that you are not alone. Many of our colleagues, including managers, CEOs, and MDs, share similar feelings. Use these sentiments as a driving force for continuous improvement and aspire to excel in your professional endeavours. As I anticipate the next 15 years with Baines Simmons, my commitment to learning remains unwavering. May we all approach our careers with a spirit of curiosity, recognising that there is always more to discover, and I hope that I will never walk into a room thinking that I know it all, as even the most junior person has valuable insights to offer. #aviationsafety #safetytraining

What to say Pete? So many parallels with my own journey and feelings - It's been my privilege to work with and learn from you over the last decade and a half and indeed all of the other human, self-doubters on our team. It's working with people like you with a shared passion to learn and improve the world that gets me up every morning too. You have made a difference and left your mark already - keep going for another 15 years - great achievements await!

Pete, I am so moved by your authenticity and your wisdom. You truly are a courageous and inspirational human being. It takes real guts to reflect on our our limiting beliefs and the journey inwards is not for everyone, but the prize is worth it and you've proven that. You've traversed many a personal and professional summit, you are respected and loved by so many in the Baines Simmons family and beyond, and you are making a difference every day. Here's to the next 15 years.

Congrats pal, hard work and dedication always pay off good to see you enjoying what your doing.

Wow, sounds as though you are making a real difference. I was chief of safety in Kandahar in 2009 and leading safety, training and assurance in ASACS 2014-16 so I know the importance of everything we do in this field. I left the RAF in 2023 after 43 years, it might be good for us to connect.
