Sales Wisdom #32 "The Narrower Door and Vito (Very Important Top Officer)" Finding Vito and getting to talk to him takes much more effort than succumbing to the temptation to stick with the local procurement or site management team. When it comes to winning new business, don't give in to temptation. A former boss used this analogy to illustrate the point: "You use your shotgun for hunting ducks, but you take your rifle to hunt a deer." This essentially means that a more planned and targeted approach will lead to greater rewards. I do not doubt the value of the Vito path. I remember learning about "the narrower door" in my earliest lessons, probably when I was five or six years old. This still resonates with me when approaching a new lead and mostly all important tasks in life. Avoid falling into temptation. Finding Vito and getting to talk to him or her will always be worth it. Winning a new customer beginning with the right foot is more likely when both parties understand each other's business and foresee potential synergies. This aspect of the sales puzzle may be the most valuable. While pricing, logistics, and product quality are manageable and can be optimized, "the genuine interest in doing business with you" comes from the Vito relationship that you took the time and effort to cultivate since deciding to add it to your pipeline. Slamming my door on a door-to-door salesman? NAH! I would never EVER do that. It’s rude and degrading. I should know, because I knock on doors too. As a roofer, I know the feeling. You knock on a stranger’s door… You introduce yourself and the service you provide… Sometimes they’re interested… Most times you get REJECTED. You’re wondering why I keep pushing on? What gives me the confidence when many people look at door-to-door salesmen as sleazy or pushy? Simple It’s the QUALITY of the service I’m offering I feel good about my service because I know the hard work I’m pouring into this job. I believe in the excellence of my team’s workmanship. I don’t have to use pushy sales talk to get people to avail my service. The work does the talking for me. So when a door-to-door salesman knocks on my door? I answer. I hear them out. I've been working in Castle as a Sales Representative for a while now and have learned a lot. Many people on Chinese social medias have consulted me about our Castle collated screws, loose screws, corner beads/ external angles after they viewed our videos, and I have referred them to our distributors in NSW, such as BM, WSPMC, SGP, and all the Plastamasta stores in NSW. I am glad and deeply honored to bring Castle products to Australia and to make a small contribution to the diversity of building materials in Australia. Our company is also growing rapidly due to everyone's passion and efforts. I would like to share a bit about us here. First of all, it is important to state that since the company's vision is to sell Castle building materials to every developed country with a net population inflow, and based on the principle of “professionals doing professional things” (we specialize in R&D and manufacturing, so we only conduct R&D and manufacture; distributors specialize in local sales, so they only handle local sales), in order to maintain long-term strategic partnerships with all our distributor friends and to ensure our partners can earn significant profits with every order, the company has a policy that is also our Number 1 Golden Rule: "We only sell to screw sellers, never to screw users." This was our promise to the distributor partners when we started three years ago, and it remains true in the past, present, and future. Recently, some of our Aussie competitors, in an attempt to regain their original market share, have started to spread rumors over the past week or two on construction sites and among distributors working with Castle. They, along with some workers they've enlisted, falsely claim that we are selling directly to end-users. I find this very frustrating and can only express my helplessness regarding this phenomenon. At the same time, I feel somewhat pleased because this actually proves that our company development strategy— focusing on both R&D and manufacturing and selling global — is correct. I don't want to complain about our competitors and their tactics here. I can only say: each follows their own path.
