That's 5% of EVERYTHING in landfills (via EPA estimates). Every single piece of furniture saved from the landfill helps create a more sustainable furniture ecosystem. In a Hotel net article “The price of hotel sustainability: willing to stay – willing to pay?” it featured many viewpoints as it relates to guests and their decision-making process to stay at hotels that are actively promoting sustainability measures. For hotel owners and management companies, cost is always the #1 factor in adding sustainability into the hotel. However, being green doesn’t automatically mean incurring more costs. Retreat in the forest. The inaugural post of this new year is devoted to one of our passions: hotels. We actively seek out establishments worldwide that distinguish themselves through innovation, creativity, architecture, design, and the distinctive experiences they offer. While I haven't had the opportunity to explore the Nordic countries recently, the Panorama Landscape Hotel and Forest Spa demanded attention: a tranquil retreat nestled in the Finnish forest, featuring a novel hilltop hotel in eastern Finland with a sauna on stilts and minimalist cabins. Rintala Eggertsson Architects, a studio based in Norway, has adeptly crafted structures that seamlessly integrate with nature rather than disrupt it. Notable examples include the Arctic Hideaway in Fleinvær and Safe House in Kalsholmen. Located on a forested hilltop in Eastern Finland, the site boasts captivating views of the inland lake landscape. To preserve the site's inherent qualities, the program has been subdivided into smaller volumes strategically positioned among the existing trees. The spa experience is intricately connected to interactions with nature and weather: visitors can luxuriate in a warm bath and sauna surrounded by nature, then cool off in the snow and brisk air. This interplay between temperatures and the outdoors, with steam rising from one's body, lays the groundwork for an authentic Finnish sauna experience. The project consists of three elements: a lighter and more social restaurant, a darker and more intimate spa, and ten standalone cabins thoughtfully placed within the forest to offer the most captivating views. All kinds of discarded furniture and equipment🛋️now benefit other AccorInvest hotels, external partners and charities, and overall, our “Think Circular” approach has avoided the emission of 33 tons of CO². 💚🏆Regarding the hotel’s sustainability, the hotel is aligned with the EU taxonomy and meets the standards required for the obtention of #BREEAM In-Use Excellent certification, the HQE label BDV3 Excellent and the #Effinergie label, acknowledging the hotel’s outstanding environmental performance. The gorgeous interior design, led by Giros & Coutellier, incorporates sustainable materials and construction techniques to minimize future waste. 🔋Tomorrow, the numerous technological innovations we’ve installed (such as our Building Management System, which includes an efficient Guest Room Management System) will enable us to drastically reduce our energy and water consumptions: our aim is to achieve -53% compared to the pre-renovation level. All this whilst ensuring optimum comfort and health conditions for our guests and employees.
