Pecan Market Update August 2023 Here we are already in August and we are not very far from the New Crop. In 2 months or so we will have a much better idea as to the size but at least for now, weather permitting, it may rank one of the largest ever for both The United States and Mexico. Current cold storage holdings being reported just do not pass the smell test compared to how the market is acting. Although certain pieces sizes and grades are still in good demand and holding firmer prices, some halves sizes and grades are not. This oncoming supply could end up being one for the record book so best advice please proceed with caution. The Pecan Industry has changed over recent years and continues to evolve every day. It seems as if a much larger percentage of the marketable inshell supply every year has shift from open market trading to a combination of Grower/shellers or Pooling Arrangements. This lends instability to the overall market as there is no established cost basis in the shelling stock. However they come to market, we will do our best to get the kernels into the market place for the best value possible! Please be sure to let SNRA Commodities quote what ever needs you may have for both spot buy as well as the balance of 2023. This crush plant can be good news for family farmers, food teams, and biofuel stakeholders if Louis Dreyfus Company manages the naturally inverse relationship between soybean protein and oil. Addressing the natural tension between protein and oil value is important because soybean protein has declined for 20 years. Family farmers have lost billions in corn and soybean sales to synthetic feed. United Soybean Board researchers recently found 65 percent of consumers don’t want synthetic livestock feed. This Rollcall story has background on the political biofuel drivers behind soybean industry crush plants. https://lnkd.in/gm9pMTfv Everyone will benefit if commodity soybean protein is protected from the inverse correlation with oil. When about 700 million people are short on protein it’s unwise to let biofuel demand threaten global food security. What are your views on the relationship between food and biofuel? #soybeans #protein #foodsecurity #biofuel #sustainableaviationfuel #energypolicy #livestockfeed
