Now that the shock has worn off...(has it?) Why is the news of Hilton buying Graduate so detrimental to independent hotels? It means one more hotel in your area (and they plan to expand by hundreds) that offer Hilton Honors points. One more that is pulling guests because they want points....and let's face it, Graduate hotels are COOL! This is the ugliest/busiest map ever (don't tell my marketing team 😜 ) but it's so valuable. Look at the THREE highly rated independents in Minneapolis. Can you even find them in the sea of Marriotts, Hiltons, Choice, IHG, etc? Don't worry, I circled them for you. But now, it's only two. There’s a lot to be said for this approach. And I for one love it. It took me straight back to my days at Summer Lodge (who wouldn’t want to stay at a hotel called *Summer Lodge*?) where if a stamp went on an envelope slightly askew, we started again. New envelope. A comma in the wrong place? Redo it! We cross checked names in Debrett's Limited and understood the history and preferences of all our guests. Today, for me, this approach still applies. We have just migrated part of that guest experience, online. By understanding your guests, their purpose, preferences and what “propositions” they want to experience. Crafting your online footprint, beautifully, is as important. From your digital ads reaching the guests you want to welcome to a seamless booking experience. Rooms ✔️ Restaurants ✔️ Spa booking ✔️ Golf ✔️ Events ✔️ Gifts ✔️ Retail ✔️ One seamless journey. One website, one booking platform. This is the nature of the digital world. Taking your guests with you, online. Journey Hospitality has a driving ambition to help hotels deliver exactly this. No wonky stamps on our watch. Sometimes, we focus so closely on the measurement. The exact KPIs, what return are we getting? What % growth are we seeing? And it’s why I do what I do. It’s my “why”. And hotels need it, of course. But in my echo chamber of commercial performance and strategy, this was a brilliant reminder of the real reason luxury and independent hotels, brands and groups do what they do. For the guest.
