One month from today, I will take what will likely be the most difficult test I have experienced in my life. I have set out to become a full member of the PGA of America (teaching pro, not a tour pro...very different things. I definitely wouldn't be writing LinkedIn posts if I had the talent to be a tour pro 😂). Before applying for membership, you have to do three things. 1. ✅ Successfully pass a background check It's been a while since I last robbed a bank, so I passed this one with flying colors. 2. ✅ Complete the Qualifying level of the PGA's Professional Golf Management course. I paid my $200, learned about the history of the PGA, studied the rule book, and passed all of the quizzes with 100% scores. 3. 🔜 Pass the PGA's Player Ability Test (PAT) The PAT tests your golf skills. To teach and work in golf, you should also be able to play the game. Makes a lot of sense. In all of the certifications and schooling that I have done, I'm not sure I have had to prove ability like this before. The test is one day. 36 holes. The PGA sets up the course, and players must play the two rounds under double the course rating +15 strokes. In my case, it's under 158 strokes or a scoring average of 79 for each round. There's no hiding behind a late-night cram session or it being an open-book test. I can't write the answers inside a water bottle label and look when I need to. There is no relaying the test questions to the van outside like Vince Vaugn in Old School. It's just me and the golf course. I've played in my fair share of golf tournaments, but none where I'm only competing against myself and the golf course. Does anyone have experience with this type of testing? How did you prepare other than hours of practice? I'd love any and all tips!

Hey everyone, Just wanted to share a little update on my recent experience at the golf professional qualifying school. It didn't go as well as I had hoped, but that's the nature of the game, right? Golf teaches us resilience, and I'm ready to bounce back stronger. The qualifying school was a tough challenge, and I faced some formidable competition. Despite not achieving the results I aimed for, I see it as a learning opportunity. Every swing, every putt – they all contribute to the bigger picture of improvement. Now, I'm channeling my disappointment into motivation. I've identified areas of my game that need refinement, and I'm committed to putting in the work. The journey doesn't end here; it's just a stepping stone toward future tournaments where I'll have the chance to showcase my progress. Success in golf, much like in life, is a journey filled with highs and lows. I appreciate the support I've received from friends, family, and fellow golf enthusiasts. Your encouragement fuels my determination to give my best in the upcoming tournaments. So here's to the grind, the early mornings on the course, and the countless hours of practice. I'm embracing the process, staying focused, and looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead. The next swing might just be the one that turns it all around. For a guy who hates being beaten up and counted out and who deals with anxiety, I sure picked the wrong sport to fall in love with and make my life work. I am far from my playing days, if that even ever was a thing for me. My passion, my fears and anxiety, and my whole being as a PGA of America Golf Professional can be found in helping others reach their goals within the game. When a student has a high, I congratulate them, acknowledge their hard work, and am thrilled for their achievements. When a student has a low, I feel in that pain...its almost as if the defeat happened to me personally. With all that said, I must make sure that my students, and all who play the game competitively, understand this...you don't master this game. You practice, work hard, tee it up, try your best, and learn to live with the outcome, no matter what. The real victories comes when you learn something from the last round you played and use it to make your next one better than the last. Look, when the best winning percentage in the history of golf is just over 20% and was something accomplished by the great Tiger Woods, there is no reason why you should ever be upset by "losing" an event. Your greatness in golf will only truly be measured by these few things: How hard you worked How gracious you were in defeat How humble you were in victory How thankful you were for the opportunity Keep playing and working hard, and don't ever give up after a heartbreak...just learn from it, and move on. Remember, Tiger "lost" around 75% of the times he teed it up in professional competition...and no other player in golf history had a higher winning percentage than he did...in fact, no one else ever eclipsed that 20% mark... Enjoy the journey, keep things in perspective, and simply do the best you are capable of...
