A study from the UMC Utrecht Centre has found that Aker BioMarine ASA's Lysoveta — a krill oil with high levels of EPA and DHA — could protect newborns from the impacts of hypoxia-ischemia, a brain injury associated with a lack of oxygen and blood flow to the organ during and shortly after childbirth. The study found that #Lysoveta protected the brains of mice with hypoxic-ischemic brain injuries, allowing the preservation of white and grey matter while reducing oxidative stress. This result highlights the functional ingredient's potential as a facilitator of brain health alongside prescribed medications. #cognitivehealth #neonatalhealth #nutraceutical #functionalingredients #omega3 #DHA #EPA https://lnkd.in/edJiQ7ri

Bottom line: (Dr. Kevin Fernando writes) "In conclusion, I do not believe that semaglutide is the "new statin." Statins are the cornerstone of primary and secondary prevention of CVD in a wide range of comorbidities, as evidenced in multiple large and high-quality trials dating back over 30 years. However, there is no doubt that the GLP-1 receptor agonist class is the most significant therapeutic advance for the management of obesity and comorbidities to date. The SELECT CVOT data uniquely position semaglutide as a secondary CVD prevention agent on top of guideline-driven management for people living with overweight/obesity and established CVD. Additionally, the clinically meaningful weight loss achieved with semaglutide will impact the risk of developing many other cardiometabolic conditions, as well as improve mental health and overall quality of life" What do you think? the pill is not everything... Anti-obesity medications based on incretin hormones have advanced weight control and metabolic health in individuals with obesity. The long-term success of obesity therapeutics could be facilitated by exercise, a vital metabolic ally in enhancing treatment efficacy. Now is an opportune moment for healthcare societies and groups to educate and advocate for the inclusion of exercise as an adjunct therapy to pharmacological treatment for obesity within healthcare settings. Evidence regarding the metabolic benefits of both treatments necessitates the consideration of this metabolic alliance in the management of obesity. I am not sure if i would recommend the pharmacological treatment as an adjunct therapy to exercise... https://lnkd.in/dPGz5uye

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), initially used for conditions like carbon monoxide poisoning, is now emerging as a versatile treatment for various health issues, especially in women's health. Its ability to stimulate the body's natural healing processes through increased oxygen supply makes it a promising option for addressing hormonal balance, reproductive health, and aging concerns. This therapy has shown potential in reducing inflammation, fighting infection, and promoting tissue regeneration. With ongoing research, HBOT is being explored for broader applications in women's health, including fertility, cognitive function, and weight management, highlighting its role in functional medicine and healthy aging. #HBOT #inflammation #infection #fertility #Cognition #functionalmedicine https://lnkd.in/gWfEUbC3

Plasmalogens, a crucial type of lipid that decreases with age, play a significant role in anti-aging, neurological health, and recovery. Comprising 20% of the brain's weight and peaking in our 30s and 40s, their levels drop considerably by the 70s. They are linked to the prevention and management of conditions such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, MS, autism, and cancer...Plasmalogen levels can be replenished through diet, supplementation, and testing to assess individual needs. Together with Sumitomo Pharma America, Inc., Gubra has mapped CNS activation signatures of trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) agonists. 3D whole-brain light sheet imaging reveals that TAAR1 agonists stimulate discrete centers controlling energy homeostasis. This may explain why TAAR1 agonists have beneficial metabolic effects in preclinical models of diabetes, obesity and iatrogenic weight gain. #TAAR1 #lightsheet #brainimaging #imaging #obesity #diabetes

There is low awareness and underdiagnosis of subclinical hypothyroidism among women, particularly those over 40 years of age. Partly due to the unspecific nature of symptoms, this condition can cause a low quality of life in addition to the risk of progressing to full-blown hypothyroidism. Luckily, This condition is fairly easy to diagnose with the measurement of thyroid hormones T3, T4 and TSH (most important). In addition, women are also more likely to have anti-thyroid antibodies. I have put together an overview article on how we diagnose various thyroid conditions from the laboratory perspective 🔽🔽🔽 https://lnkd.in/dd4yZpwj
